Fort Yargo State Park

Fort Yargo's Trail System is 12 miles long it is mostly single track with a couple of
sections of double track it consists of a lot of rolling terrain, whoops, a couple of jumps, a
rock garden and a root garden. It also has a big hill climb out on the gas line. There
are some really sweet descents on the backside of the hill climbs. The trails are Bi-Directional. Go clockwise on Mon, Wed, Fri and Sun. Go counter-clockwise Tues, Thurs and Sat.
Approximately 3 miles north of Hwy. 316 on Hwy 81 in Winder GA. I don't believe there are any signs on 316 for Ft. Yargo and if there are, they are of the very small variety.
Summary: Can't really add much more except the horse shoe section is a trip and someone has posted some youtube video's of them 12 ft down 12 ft acreoss 12ft up. Great job YABA out standing ride.

Summary: Big thanks to Mr. Gordon and the Yaba club for putting so much hard work into this trail system. It's a blast to ride now. Fast, flowy, long and fun.
Recommended Route: It's directional. Take a look at the board at the trailhead for the correct direction that day. My favorite is clockwise.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Chicopee, Blankets, Heritage, Dausette
A) While riding the loop clockwise, there is a new section prior to the sidehill descent, overlooking the dam and spillway. It bypasses the multi-use stretch with the huge unavoidable puddle, connected to the campsite road. New part is fairly narrow with no climbs, but a lot of tight, sharp turns. It adds about a half mile + or -. It's bumpy so the full-susp guys will like it.
B) The Inner (shorter) loop is now partially marked. Proceeding clockwise it begins at the foot of the first big stairsteps up, with a marked left turn. Cross the bridge and turn right at the campsite (paved) road. When you reach the lake follow the shoreline trail to the left, and cross the dam. If you want to include a hill climb, go straight up the hill, then turn right just past the bottom of the other side. If you want to skip the climb turn hard right at the end of the dam. Either way, you'll end up at the Day use Area "B" lakebridge. Cross the bridge and turn hard right, ride over the ramp, and cross the field by the rowing pier. From here you follow the lakeshore all the way back to the recreated Fort, down from the start/parking area. The last bit has a 3 step up-3 step down bridge and a tight, narrow sidehill over the lake. Seems like 7 or 8 miles total. When going counterclockwise a fun detour takes you up the gasline climb after the lakebridge. When your coming down the big gasline descent, take the left fork halfway down, stay OFF the brakes, and hammer that big ring. You'll hit the long flat dam, at the bottom, with a full head of steam, and be able to cross the dropoff for the spillway really flying. I've ridden a lot of trails around the SE and haven't seen anything to match this for sheer speed.
The Inner loop is a nice option for those days when you want to "get a ride in" but time is limited.
Recommended Route: Overall a great trail system.

counterclockwise T-T-Sa

Summary: Rode this trail for the first time today and found it to be very enjoyable. This is a long fast trail that is very different from chicopee and blankets. I will definitely be out here again.

Summary: I am writing this to correct the information regarding the location of these trails. Hopefully the incorrect map and vague directions can be changed.
Lattitude: 33 59 03.08N
Longitude: 83 43 57.98W (Nad 83). This is the entrance to the park in Winder, which is no where near Covington (as shown on the map).
Trail directions: Approximately 3 miles north of Hwy. 316 on Hwy 81 in Winder GA. I don't believe there are any signs on 316 for Ft. Yargo and if their are, they are of the very small variety.
Trail Length: 12+/- miles
Trail level: Beginner to intermediate (somewhat in the eye of the beholder)
Trail Type: single track, not fire road.
City/county: Winder, Barrow County
Recommended Route: I believe it is running clockwise one day, counter the next. Check at the ranger station at the entrance to the park.
