Cross Country Rider Summary: Got back into biking thanks to my friend Steve and pretty much just ride here because of the proximity to me and because it really is an extensive and fun trail system. You can ride all day long from Old Town to Bangor and it can all mostly be off road. Trails can be pretty technical with many roots and rocks. If it's wet, which it can be in Maine for the majority of the year, it adds a whole other element to the riding. Recommended Route: Northwest end of University end of campus, across from Dunkin Donuts on stillwater ave. in Old Town. Other recommended trails in the same area: Bangor City Forest, Bradbury
Mtn.

Cross Country Rider Summary: This system has everything except giant hucks or big elevation. Great mix of single track roots, rocks, mud, flats, and tricky little twisty turny sections. This spiderweb keeps getting more intricate every time we go (and we've been riding this for more than a decade). I would add to the previous reviews that the winter riding in here is most excellent, there's no need to break out the x-country skis, unless that's your preference. The technical and aerobic ratings below are compromise dbecause the trails range from extremely easy to extremely difficult- any rider can ride almost solely what they want, provided they learn their way around. This is the best mix in the area, that's why it's a five, baby. Recommended Route: There are more than a dozen ways to start this ride, anywhere around the perimeter of the UM campus (both in Old Town or Orono). Once you find your way to the sytem, you can't go wrong. Other recommended trails in the same area: Old Town high school to the Ranger station, Penobscot mill side, Orono High school/OLT, Gardner Road to Tour de Veazie, on and on...

, from S.Brunswick NJ Summary: This place is really dear to me. I wnet to UMO in the early 90's. I spent a lot of my free time in these woods. My memories are a little blury but I remember going out for a good amount of time and coming back really happy. The only bummer is the long winter. If you are thinking about going to UMO bring your bike or go spend all your money at The Ski Rack and buy some cool bike.
Recommended Route: Pay a lot of money, go go UMO, Never go to class and Mt. Bike a lot. Then when it snows get some xc skis and get even stronger. Then when the snow melts your lungs still work. Ride fast and make really good friends. It also helps to ride around campus coverded with mud. The hick grils really dig that. Try not to smoke too much weed.. Other recommended trails in the same area: Go to Pedro's !

, from Now live in Portland Summary: Starting behind the 'bum-stock' stage veer of the gravel road about 1/8 mile in on your right. Usually very wet to start with, a great single track through some very technical sections for about 10 minute. You enter a pine grove where you have 3 to 5 directions to chose from. From here you can continue your single track adventure and head to Old Town, or have a short ride to another gravel access road. You really need to just start on a weekend day and adventure out and find your favorite loop, there are many different ways to run these trails. Although i have graduated and move away I always go to Orono once or twice a year to ride these trails because i have yet to find anything that compares to these trails. Recommended Route: Throughout the UMaine system there are hundreds of different types of trails from your classic single track to paved walk paths to gravel access roads and lots more
