$40.00 | | Strengths: | Cheap and light | | Weaknesses: | Very little protection and shoulder pads do not fit well. Also side straps do not adjust enought to secure it tightly. | | Similar Products Used: | None | | Bike Setup: | Saracen havoc tr1 rear shock wedge forks. | | Bottom Line: | If you have a small budget its better than nothing. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$60.00 | | Purchased At: | Cambria | | Strengths: | Low cost. If you fall - Better than nothing. A little more side protection than most others. | | Weaknesses: | Snaps come apart - vest comes off on first impact. Not snug enough - rider up under your helmet. Velcro fasteners for front/back half in a difficult position - have to be a contortionest to fasten. Won't prevent a broken collar bone. | | Bike Setup: | BMX Cruiser | | Bottom Line: | Some of the problems can be fixed - I sewed the front and back halves together so the snaps can't come apart. I also added extra elastic straps to hold the front half down so it didn't get in the way anymore. Still takes too much time and effort to put on and take off. You have to plan ahead or you might miss your gate.
In summer weather (90's F) this thing is really hot - could give you a heat stroke. I found that soaking it with water just before the gate made it bearable.
Took a hard fall reciently. Broke a collar bone and some ribs. There was a large skid mark on the sholder cup but no other injury to my sholder. I'm sure that this minimized the bruises and abrasions that I might have had.
Bottom line, there is not any really good chest protection out there, but this better than nothing. I think the lawyers have something to do with that. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
