Purchased At:A bike shop in worcster
Strengths:its erm ok for street riding
Weaknesses:It doesn't keep the chain On . Its cool for small bumps but if you go though a rock field at speed its straight off if your lucky the chain won't rap it self around your rear wheel and bend (snap off) your rear mech hanger ! I was lucky !
Similar Products Used:I used a super small chain and a top for about week and that was better value for money !
DMR chain thingy good but it takes a bit to set it up !
MRP copy just as cr*ppy as the AC but at least it not trying to be anything good
Bike Setup:Planet X Jack flash(15") judys (100mm) x-lite stem a gay AC chain device wheels oh and formula rear disc !
Bottom Line:Well it doesn't do won't its meant to do and when it buggers up it trys to take the rear mech wheel and general trash your pride and joy !

    Date Reviewed: September 19, 2000
    Favorite Trail:sand mountain (north Idaho)
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $65.00
    Purchased At:TNT Bicycles Lewiston, ID
    Strengths:Affordable
Weaknesses:Bends a lot, makes lots of noise, when chain does come off, it doesn't go back on without tools.
    Similar Products Used:none yet
Bike Setup:Kona Roast, Profile cranks, Rohloff chain, 38t chainring
Bottom Line:I purchased this chain tensioner because it was fairly inexpensive, and it was an AC product. Since then I have had the chain jam itself unrepairable-like twice while raceing. Talk about a stream of cusswords! I have also had problems with chain/pulley angles when in larger gears on the rear cassette.
Removing the lower pulley and adding an old-style chainstay mounted tensioner seemed the only solution to the above problems. I think I will only be happy when I sell it and buy a more expensive one.

Favorite Trail:the new 6 minute ft william
    Duration Product Used:3 months
    Price Paid: $60.00
    Purchased At:bikesport, innerliethen
    Strengths:Price, looks
Weaknesses:phhbbtt! where do i start, weak, noisy, impossible (seemingly) to secure, dented my peachy new patriot frame!
    Similar Products Used:dmr chain cage
    Bike Setup:see other review
Bottom Line:I've already reviewed this, and what i said there still goes, sort of. I replaced the top roller with a hacked up dmr chain cage, and wrapped foam and inner tube around the bottom roller, thus quietening things down a bit.
Problem is, the anchor bolts are too short to be effective, so the darn thing kept (past tense, it's in the bin now) rotating into the frame, even locking my suspension out and denting the frame. Having removed everything from it, i now realise how easily it has twisted and bent, then holders for the rollers are all over the shop.
Having looked about, i now reckon you'd be better off buying one of those mrp style rip off things, me: i'm saving for the real thing.

    Favorite Trail:ft william
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $60.00
    Purchased At:Bikesport, innerliethen
    Strengths:Cheap, simple, looks OK
Weaknesses:Noisy, weak, seemingly impossible to set up right, hits frame
Similar Products Used:dmr chain cage, dcd
Bike Setup:6" patriot, 5" bombers, discs f & r, single 42 tooth ring with 8 speed XT at back
Bottom Line:Hoo boy, i know it's a budget device compared to MRP etc. but this is one thing i will quickly be getting rid of. It seems to have twisted already, the anchor bolts are weak, can't be tightened enough and don't seem to do the job hence my top roller constantly ends up jamming under the swingarm of my patriot. The bottom roller doesn't seem to move, and worst of all, the chain seems to ride up the side of the roller and jams, so not only am i left without pedalling, but in the worst instance i couldn't actually rotate the cranks until i stamped down incredibly hard, thus gouging the (admittedly) lovely gold finishing. It's a shame, because the device is cheap and attractively simple, but unfortunately NOT fit-and-forget.

Weaknesses:I can't set it up right and the frame anchors won't fit
    Similar Products Used:dmr speed guide
    Bike Setup:azonic rc37s hopes etc
Bottom Line:I don't know about these...maybe I just can't set them up right but the chain keeps coming off under hard pedalling all the time (resulting in many unfortunate injuries to my person but anyway) they are also very noisy, and seem to affect the gears shifting a bit.

If anyone can help me set this thing up better then email me please before I chuck it away and get the roox chain animal!

    Favorite Trail:
    Cheddar DH
    Duration Product Used:
    less than 1 month
    Strengths:
Its cheaper than most, no complex parts to go wrong. Its very effective!! Ive not lost my chain once since fitting it. It also looks (although this is as yet untested) indestructable.
    Weaknesses:
It can be a little noisy at the extremes of chain line, but aren't they all? It is only suitable for hardtails
    Similar Products Used:
    DCD (crap)
    MRP Copy (flexy)
    Marin/Gleed (good but Noisy)
    Bike Setup:
Hardtails only im afraid, Mines on an Azonic DS-1 with a 44T front ring runing, It should fit a 40 - 52 tooth ring though
Bottom Line:Excellent budget chain device that looks way cool, and works 'n' all. Not too haevy either, the perfect slalom choice
