That's pretty funny.
So far this fork has been fantastic to use, compared to the thin sticks of the Psylos I was using. You definately can NOT get 150mm of travel - the stanchions fully extended are only 135mm, but frankly they all lie about how big they are. My 125mm Psylos struggle to get 90mm!
The travel adjuster actually does work, though you have to push down hard on the fork to set them to the lower travel.
I was concerned a fork this solid was going to be heavy but the weight isn't that noticeable - and they weren't made for XC anyway. The big payoff is how incredibly solid and stiff they feel. You think less about nursing the bike over big hits... thru axles are the way to go.
As for the colour, sure, dark brown isn't the prettiest, but I've got a black bike so the brown blends in with it. Anyone who whinges about the colour or the stickers not staying on forever needs to get a reality check... buy something else, or donate some money to the starving children! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I had a similar problem with the talas system on another pair of XC forks where to return to full travel I had to manually 'pull' the lowers back out but now this? rebound blown?
When they work again- post visit to the dealers I hope they work/as plush as they did for the first few weeks...

The measurment from the scraper seal to the top of the crown on mine is five and three-quarters inches. The fork had to go back to the factory the first week because it was only a five inch fork and the Talas system did not work. At lower air pressures the fork blows through its travel way too easily. At higher air pressure you are bounced all over rocky trails. Evidently, one has to have the cartridge revalved to correct this. When a fork costs this much, the default damping should be good. I guess I should have spent even more money to get the RC model. These are major isssues. A couple of minor ones. On the Fox Poster and the Santa Cruz website the fork appears black. I thought black would look good with my sliver anno Heckler. The fork is in fact chocolate brown and does not look good on most bikes. You get really cheesy looking stickers on the fork that peel off. To top it off, the stickers misspell thirtysix. Wonder how that got past Fox's vaunted quality control? Also fork is progressive enough to prevent bottoming.
-Very stiff, I can't notice flex under heavy braking or while cornering, although I weight about 220lbs and have 8" rotor on the front.
-Talas is useful when climbing(I use it seldom)

-Price!! Mine came with the bike so the price doesn't bother me.
-A bit heavy, but the weight is very reasonable when it comes to stiffnes(36mm construction), 150mm travel and performance.
-Only a rebound adjuster.
-Talas, it's a bit useless-->I run it at the 150mm mode almost all the time.
-It's not fully user serviceable??? I prefer to maintain my forks by myself.

The reason for the one chili is the fact that it cost twice as much as the pike and offers less travel not to mention that it weighs almost a pound more than claimed, close to 6 lbs. On a plus side is its stiffness and smooth action which the Nixxon and Pike can't match but it is not worth twice the money. The only other benifit i saw in the 36 over the others was the increase in travel, 150mm claimed. I was way disapointed when i measured how much travel i was getting and it read 130 i tried every thing from lowering the pressure to going nose first of 5 foot drops onto cement and the most i can squeeze out of it is 135mm. If you measure from the top of the fork seal to the bottom of the crown and it measures 145MM, making it impossible to get the calimed 150MM travel that you think you are spending $850.00 for. My advice is to save yourself $400.00 and get a pike or wait until 2006 when Fox is going to introduce the 36 Vanilla with claimed travel of 160 so mabey it will really have around 145. | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |

It gives you confidence to pick bolder lines and try things that you would have walked down on with your old fork. The fork has bailed me out of several places where I would have had a painful OTB experience if I'd been on my old setup. Rock gardens are a blast -- just point and shoot. And the TALAS feature is really nice -- dial down the travel for long climbs and the geometry of the bike is changed for climbing. Even in the shorter travel mode the fork performs nicely; I would have expected a harsh, unforgiving ride at the short travel setting -- not the case. This fork is unbeleivable. I have been riding a 888R with the works package on my DH rig, and put this fork on my new Enduro rig and it seems to track as well as my 888R. It feels great, stiff as anything I've ever ridden. I am a 185lb rider and this thing feels great. the lower section of the steerer tube is about a 1/4 thick all around and then tapers as the tube goes up. this must contribute to the stiffness. the TALAS system has worked fine even while riding. Once cycled through the travel a couple of times it sits in whatever position you adjust it to. The rebound has a great amount of adjustment range from full in to full out. Fox must have spent so much time & money working on the performance of this fork that when it came time for color picking they didn't have enough $$$ for the power bill and chose the color in the dark. Like I said up top. You begin to not care about that color as soon as you take it down a rocky trail and it gets a little dirty. It must be like an women witha not so pretty face that cooks great food and gives you some anytime you want it, it starts not to matter so much if here face is as pretty.
COSMETIC:
The color is a little weird, but since it performs so good you start to not care. Also, the lowers seem to scuff a little easier than I had expected. 2 rides and the brake cable have made their marks. I'll add some clear adhesive number plate backing to the fork legs in the area the brake line touches to remedy this.
Again, this thing is really blowing my mind for a single crown fork.
