Submitted by ***** **** a Cross Country Rider from Canberra, Act, Australia
Date Reviewed: July 14, 2001
Favorite Trail:Dirt Jump track at mt. painter
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $150.00
Purchased At:Lyneham city cycles
Strengths:Adjustability, Stiffness, Weight.
Weaknesses:if you bought the fork from lyneham
you will need to grease
it. I used lsep extreme pressure but
you should really use an elastomer
oil.
Similar Products Used:friends non adjustable $60 shi*e
Bike Setup:Carbon fibre pro 800A front shocks, Michelin
Wildgripper front tyre, Shintyre rear tyre, Suntour
front deraileur, Shimano rear deraileur, Shimano
Hp chain, Yst crank and headset bearings, Pazzaz
bar ends, Oury grips, Pro max Downhill comp
V-brakes, Serfas dual density downhill seat,
shimano shifters, Blue frosted Repco frame Look
out for me on the trails I'm the one carving up the
4 foot dirt jumps
Bottom Line:if you want a cheap a$$ upgrade for this already nice fork i have the solution. go out and buy a box of no.60 rubber bands. take off the green and yellow elastomers. wrap a rubber band around the shaft. replace elastomers and grease. there you have it a 75 cent plush upgrade until you can afford a proper one

carving it up over the 4 foot dirt jumps!
Bottom Line:Take out the cartridge. As it is elastomer you won't have to keep clear in case a spring jumps out and smacks you in the face. There are 9 parts to the cartridge. 2 large red pieces of elastomer, a small red piece of elastomer, a large green piece of elastomer, a large yellow piece of elastomer, a long rod that extends all the way along the elastomer, 2 small rubber bands (for gods sake! do not lose them, you will never find a manufacturer that will make bands this small), and a cap to help keep all the pieces together. Take off the bands and put them on a clear, clean table, take the elastomers off and lay them next to the rubbers. Spread grease along the metal shaft. don't skimp on the grease. make sure the elastomers will glide smoothly up and down the shaft. put the pieces back together in the order of red, red, red, green, yellow, cap, band, band. screw it back in and thee you have it a smoothly working, very plush new shock!

Purchased At:Cycle city Lyneham (best shop ever)
Strengths:Adjustability, Stiffness, Carbon fibre legs, good looks.
Weaknesses:Travel

Bottom Line:A mad shock, I am actually talking about the 800A pro not the 950 sl. This shock is a great step up from a rigid fork
and suits my dirt jumping needs. If you have 150 bucks to buy a good fork to suit any frame you want as it has a clamp at the top of the crown. If you want quality, buy this.
Finally a word for the mechanics, I went to Col's bike shop in Belconnen and bought a 3 piece crank. He told me it was simple to install. I installed it and found a couple weeks later that it was loosening so that it would fall of had the axle not been bolted to the crank. I left the bike with Col and he said that i had installed it wrong and i explained that he had told me to install it myself and he tightened it and said it would not come loose. The same thing happened with a Yst headset i brought from the same shop. I took both products to Manuka. They charged me thirty five dollars and said neither the headset nor the cranks would come loose
Ha! the headset had so much play that it would go clacitaclackitaclackita when riding down a bumpy hill
despite this i went to buy a suspension fork from Lyneham. The fork was installed for free and the worker told me that the bearing cups had been put upside down. we payed thirty five dollars for nothing and got the bike fixed for free. Is there something wrong with this this situation or is it just me. Go Lyneham City Cycles!

Favorite Trail:Archbald Mt. Trail
Duration Product Used:Tested or demo'ed only
Strengths:it's good for the hard hits like rock gardens, high-speed hits on rocks, fast, rocky downhills, for weaving through densely spread rocks, and sharp, weavy turns.
Weaknesses:It's like a rigid fork for slow and rocky climbs, flat and rocky trails, and short rocky downhills
Bottom Line:this shock isn't the greatest shock on the market
