Before this spring I was flying over the handlebars on heinous dropoffs as the fork would completely compress. Not any more. Buy these if you are heavy and run the Manitou SXR. Manitou x-vert 99 fork | | Bottom Line: | I think this is a must do upgrade for the manitou shocks. I think the stock coil and MCU combo springs in these forks are great for easy to moderate trails, but when things go vertical, steep and rooty the stock springs are too soft. On difficult trails the braking action uses up over half the travel (even with proper sag is set up) thus when you need the travel to keep rolling over large roots you dont have enough left. The Dirtwork Dual Rate springs (medium) are plush in the first inch of travel so small fast bumps are well absorbed. The rest of the travel (3/4) is very firm compared to the stock manitou springs. This is great for downhill technical runs, but not so great on the easier roots or rocks as it is not very plush. I find that up hill technical climbs (which I love) are more difficult as the fork is not compliant on 3to6 roots any more as compared to the very plush stock springs. I have compensated on the easier trails by popping up my front end more instead of relying on the fork so much. I highly recommend this upgrade if you are into difficult terrain and want extra endo protection on rooty/bumpy downhill singletrack. I found that I had to change the oil from 5 (stock) to 10w for the spring to work well. | | Overall Rating: |

I was planning on upgrading with the Rockshox kit, but found the Dirtworks kit at 1/2 the price of Rockshox. Installed it in 20 minutes and the feel is noticably better. manitou '98 sx | | Bottom Line: | oooooh these are great. they make my shock oh so sensitive soaking up every little root so you can go so very fast and not worry about little obstacals... set them up w/ 10 w. oil in the tpc damper (a must over 5 w. as the spring makes the fork so much more active... open the damper up with 10 w.) this is for the tpc spring on 98 and newer forks you must get this spring it is wonderful and only 29.95. | | Overall Rating: |

TREK 930 w/ '97 Man. FS | | Bottom Line: | Did not like the response of my '97 Manitou FS (MCU/Spring) set-up, so I tried some Dirt Works springs (Phat Tire in Dallas, TX recommended firm, dual rate springs for my 205 - 210 weight). I really liked the way they changed the fork. A lot more lively and handled both small and big hits with ease. The Dirtworks Springs brought a new life to my 97 Manitou SX Ti. Plush yet firm when it really counts. I guess that's the progressive spring feel. Spent $45 on the springs versus big bucks for a new fork, a good deal. I dock Dirtworks 1 chili on the install because I had to shave down the Dirtworks end pieces and file the springs some to get them to fit in the preload caps of the Manitou, but after a few minutes of preload adjustments I was rockin'. | Overall Rating: |

I have RST Mozo Hi-5's and i replaced the elastomer with there medium spring and now the forks feel exactly like Z1 drop off's but at half the price.

I instaled Dirt Works Dual Rate springs in my 98 Judy SL back in August. They are the best!! I've tried different combinations of the R.S. firm and med. springs, but I always had to use too much preload (3 full turns, I weigh 230lbs.). I dropped the Dirt Works Firm springs in and set my bike up with 1/2 turn of preload. The bike feels great!! It soaks up every thing I throw at it!! From small wash board to large hits, it makes my bike so plush and no hard bottoming out!!(I am getting full travel with these springs, the R.S. springs only gave me 75mm. All that preload I guess.) I have noticed that the bike bobs less on climbs with the Dirt Works springs than with the R.S. springs. Dirt Works has made a great fork even better!!! These are GREAT! I got mine from Biek World for only $39. These make such an unbelievable difference to Judy XC. I put in the firm springs (I am 195#) and they are so supple. They really soak up the bumps better than the stock setup. I set the preload to 1/4 and am experimenting with the dampening cartridge but I love 'em just the way they are. One word SWEET. However they want 50 so hear goes. I bought their dual rate springs almost a year ago, and loved them from day one. Travel is so much smoother. I bought the medium springs which I figured would be too light for my 200 pounds. Not a problem, I don't bottom out much and the fork remains stiff in that smooth sorta way. I installed the Dirt Works Otis in my Indy XC this weekend and its awesome. The Damping is much improved over the elastomer bumpers and I have much more control of the bike over the big stuff. I installed the soft Dirtworks springs in my '97 Judy last summer, they were very easy to install and they fit perfect!
A big improvement over the stock elastomers which were to stiff for my 140lbs.
My Judy is plush and very active, yet I have not bottomed out yet.

The springs are stron but don't do much for me and I would rather take
some judy springs. They are quite a bit better. They are pretty cool cool
but I would rather buy another low cost spring. However they are ok and my

I tried these in a 97 Judy DH when they first came out. I followed the mfg. reccomended
rates (at the time I weighed 200lb I got stiff). I don't think they were put through any testing. The
lengths and even diameters were so far off they barely fit
into the fork. I just for the sake of trying got the fork back together and it turned
my fork into a couple of broom sticks (1/4 of travel at most!). I sent them back.
They reccomended firm progressive I elected to go medium straght rate. These
fit much better but were still on the stiff side (2 3/4 travel, should be 3.1). Get those
rates staightened out and the diameters right! I will give you the benifit of the doubt,
maybe the stockroom boy put the wrong ones in the bag.

I have used Dirt Works Dual Rate Springs for several years now. Dirt Work's springs are used to
replace the stock elastomer/springs that originally come with Judys or Mantious. The springs make
your suspension forks handle better and create a lively feel that is more like the front suspension on
a motocross motorcycle. I have never had any problems using the Dirt Works springs and would
recommend them to anyone desiring to upgrade their suspension forks.
