Bear Canyon
1 reviews
 5 of 5

Bear Canyon is usually ridden as a shuttled downhill. Like many trails in AF Canyon, it is too steep for most bikers to ride as a climb. This trail features some screaming fast downhills, some steep loose stretches between very challenging switchbacks. The bottom 1/4 mile is littered with railroad ties to control erosion. They are spaced too close together to allow you to ride them smoothly so your technical skills are put to the test. This ride is well worth the trouble of shuttling or road riding to get to the trailhead. It is best to combine the ride with the Timpanooke trail or the Timpanooke Road since Bear Canyon is only about 2 miles long.

Trail Directions
The lower trailhead is in the Mutual Dell LDS Camp in American Fork Canyon. The upper trailhead splits off the Timpanooke trail about 1/8 of a mile above the Timpanooke Road. Drive into Timpanooke Campground and ride a couple of miles past the campground on the gravel road; or if you don't mind some tough climbing you can ride the Timpanooke Trail out of the Campground. When you reach the ridgeline the trail will fork. The left fork goes on up into Julie Andrews Meadow, the right fork goes down, crosses the road and bombs down Bear Canyon

Summary:
Great downhill, but not too fun to climb. Better to ride up the road, or use a shuttle.

Recommended Route:
Start at the top on the Timpanooke Road or trail and bomb down.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Everything in AF Canyon!
