Blue Ridge Fire Road
3 reviews
 4 of 5

The Hannenkampf of Marin downhills. Totally overshadowed by Repack (which you can see from Blue Ridge), this is as insane a fire road that exists in Marin. Thus, it is legal, which I vastly prefer, and nearly deserted, which is also clutch. Viewed across the canyon from BoFax Road, it looks like a red vertical scar. Viewed from the top, it simply looks like a roller coaster. Falling at a wicked 25 degrees, the top half is about .6 miles and includes one scary off-camber right hand turn, as well as a compression roller just before it. People crash here; often. You T after one last vertical face, and go right on another fire road (its actually called Middle Fire Rd. at this point). The second half, also about .6 miles, is mostly fun rollers, except for one section that is unique: a technical fire road. The "road" is just a blasted patch of scree and baby-heads, off camber and stupid steep. A bit sick in the dry summer days. The trail just flushes you out at the foot of Repack.

You'll find it immediately south of the intersection of Wagon Wheel and Serpentine. Those of you familiar with that saddle, enjoy. For those of you who are not, get to know the area and buy a Tamarancho pass.

Summary:
UPDATE ON BLUE RIDGE. I was on Blue Ridge last week -- running, thankfully, and not riding. Someone has put in waterbars that I don't remember being there before. And they're not wide swales either...they look like fire hoses under pressure, or a big anaconda, or something. Very strange, and I'd use caution going down...unless you know how to unweight your front end 100& while on a 25 degree pitch, you could get into trouble.
