Fairly fast rolling trails through the woods that have a few small, steep hills and occasional sand. The north unit has some great views and winds around several lakes as well as providing a better flow and longer loops. Mostly easy to moderate skill level. The trails remain wet for a long time in the spring.
South Unit - parking off of Greenshield road east of M24, about three miles north of I-75 exit 81.
North Unit - parking off Harmon and Predmore roads. From Rochester take Rochester Rd north to either Stoney Creek or Predmore roads, turn left. Harmon Rd. wiil be on the right if you are on Stoney Creek, Predmore Rd. intersects Harmon at the main parking lot. Trails are on state park land so a parking permit is required if parking in one of their lots.
Summary: Very beginner friendly trail here. Some nice climbs, fast trails. I am new to trail riding but am able to go here and have alot of fun. Lots of hikers, with/without dogs.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Stony Creek.

Summary: This trail lets you get quite a bit of speed compared to other trails in the area. An average of about 11+ MPH is usually obtained. Watch for rocks, and be careful on the turns at the bottom of a couple of the hills. There is also quite a bit of sand.
Recommended Route: The better of the two trails is the North. There is only one major breakpoint, and that is toward the beginning of the trail-- stay to the left.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Pontiac Lake, Highland Park

Summary: Nice course, Easy to Intermediate. A couple of short steepish hills to climb. Needs more obsticals (Logs, Rocks, Roots, Narrow trees) to be noted a tough Mt. Bike trail. My Golden Retreiver will not let me go with out taking her with me. Can be muddy several days after rains. The best winding down hill in lower Michigan starts at the far East side after a long incline. Careful of the hard right turn in it. Otherwise you can crank as hard as you dare. See you there some day.....
Recommended Route: Adams north till it ends. Right than left (shicane) onto Harmon rd.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Pontiac, Holdridge, Highland, Island Lake, Brighton, Potto, Paint Creek, Bloomer, etc.

Summary: Beg. to Int. trail - Trails are actually set up for XC skiing and walking. Mostly rolling hills w/ a few short climbs and downhills. Mostly hard pack, very little sand, some roots and rocks. Wet early in the season. Great little trail. I took my wife there and she loved it, and she is no MTBer. I also took my 7 yr old daughter there. She walked up/down a couple hills but rode the lions share of the 4mi loop. Biffed 1x big and got bloodied up but she still can't wait to go back. Beginners - good starter trail w/ some challenge to it. Intermediate - good fast track fortraining with a couple heavy breathers. Advanced - good cardio workout (2 loops) very fast. NOTE: bring a bell, lots of walkers! Ding and they move; we have them pretty well trained! Make nice with the peds, and they don't mind use using THEIR trail... By the way, I'm may be one of those peds... help give bikers a good friendly name. Tread Light - Don't Shred! These are my home base stompin' grounds. DNR office off Greenshield road near South unit if you have probs or ??'s. ENJOY! 5 star Beg/ 4 star Int/ 3 star Adv. = Over all 4
Recommended Route: Look in MI trail Atlas. The north unit is the best - 2.1mi, 3.1mi(1mi loop added to 2.1mi)& 4mi loops. Pick & choose. 7.5 if you take the longest combination. Two loops is a good cardio work-out. South unit - Usually wet (low land /swampy) skeeter fest. Hot and Dry for a week, then it's OK.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Addison Oaks is only a few miles of dirt road away. If you bail out at the back of the 4mi loop (guard rail visible) turn right and got "bout a mile" to Predmore, turn left and go "bout a mile" to the "T" in the road (not sure of the name maybe Lake George Rd), turn left again and go "bout a mile" you'll hit pavement and see the entrance to Addison Oaks. See my review of it for more on it. South on Adams(paved)road "couple miles" is the crossing for the Paint Creek Trail(rails to trails) which will take you to the Paint Creek Cider mill (couple miles) and into Rochester eventually ("couple more miles or so..."). There you can visit Baskin Robbins, Wahu & Wahu 2 bike shops and coffee shops ect. Make a day of it! Out of towners can easily come to the area for the day and not be disappointed. Really gung ho riders can go to Stoney Creek (6-8mi of good trails w/some sweet single track) via back roads and make a 40-50mi ride out of it.

Ridden Trail: Once a week

Summary: Not a bad ride if you live in the area. Rarely overcrowded, but heads up for hikers. They're all over the place. Strike up a conversation...you'd be surprised how amicable they can be if you acknowledge their presence. This can be a great training ride when you can't make it to Poto or Holdridge Lakes, if you're willing to spin. The trail is a little too wide for my tastes, but if speed is your thing, you can really fly. Not a bad place to bring less-experienced friends. A few hairpin turns, but nothing overly twisty. The trail is very smooth, with very few roots or rocks. Nothing to write home about. If mud is your thing, the low lying areas around the lakes seem to be terminally soggy.
Recommended Route: North side; follow the signs.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Potowatami, Holdridge Lakes
