Three loops, a fourth under construction. Super tight singletrack, lots of switchbacks. Steep climbs. Hardpack.BIG rocks and BIG roots and BIG logs. Off camber runs. Rolling hills
Summary: Great trail for those who enjoy a bit of pain for breakfast. Very tight, obtrusive and low speed/high resistance lines. This trail is easy to get lost on so please study the maps placed olong the way. This is the very best rain date trail around metro Detroit, just be careful on the end of descents, they have a way of introducing you to the friendly trees.

Summary: Always a blast. I don't consider this "technical", but "tight". The climbs are fun but I'm not rewarded with any long down hills, so this is more of a training trail. Be prepared to do at least one hour's worth for loops A and B. If you go there on the weekend and have time to kill, do all A through D and be prepared to spend two hours riding.
I prefer this trail in the fall after the bugs die. In the middle of the summer, they can be obnoxious (I had to change a flat tire once and counted 50-60 moquito bites--yep, forgot bug spray.)
Scenery--not much. You're in the woods. It's reallly quiet. That's what I like about it--I feel like I'm in the U.P.
Recommended Route: ABCD if you have time. AB if you don't.
You won't have hikers and other trail users to bother you, which is nice.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Pontiac Lake--much faster
Lakeshore in Novi--you could ride a beach cruiser through this one, although it's still fun
Potowotomi. Long, pretty fast. More of the same after a while. I like doing the Poto for the scenery--some secluded lakes--really pretty, but the hikers make me stay on my toes.
My rating is higher than 3 for technical and 3 for aerobic because of it's overall enjoyment--I feel like I've accomplished something when I'm done, but I would rather have more varied terrain to give it a higher overall rating.

Summary: What the heck did you expect, Paul? In case you didn't notice there are no mountains in Michigan. I bet I could find more challenging riding in the Himalayas that blow those West Virgina trails away but but no one is looking for trails in the Himalayas on a West Virginia trail listing. Likewise with the scenery - no mountains! Michigan = flat. Nature in Michigan = forest. C'mon, it's not that far from Kingston!
Recommended Route: All of it.

Summary: Not a fast trail by all means, very tight with a lot of ruts, rocks, off camber turns and thick vegetation that just blinds the corners. The climbs, although generally short, are excellent with few sandy climbs. But still it maintains an excellent 'flow' throughout to keep you going at a rather constant pace (compared to the first three miles of Gruber's at Holdridge). Almost every climb is rewarded generously with nice twisty descent. Good choice of tire and brake system will definitely reward you here.
Recommended Route: A and B if you have about 1 hr to ride. ABCD if you have 2 hrs. C and D although marked "very technical" are not much different from the main loops although they definitely need more riders to condition and pack the soil a little more.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Poto, Holdridge, Pontiac

Summary: Rode A & B, waiting for it to get technical, arrived at C, the map said "very technical" I thought finally...however it was pretty much more of the same, just twisty MOR singletrack.
It was interesting enough, pretty long, well marked (kudos to the builders) there was the odd rock, and tricky turn, no really tough climbs or descents, certainly nothing too technical. Go to Gauley Mtn in West Virgina and ride "Red Run" and "Tea Creek Mountain" then you will have a benchmark for what "technical" is! Not much in the way of scenery either, it is situated in a forest where it all begins to look the same, no epic here. But...not a bad reasonably interesting workout, no killer though, I did it in the afternoon after running the 10 mile Bobby Crim Race in the morning and wasn't dying by the end.
Recommended Route: From Staging Area on Livingston
