    Favorite Trail:Black Mtn, Canberra Australia
    Duration Product Used:2 Years
Purchased At:Came with my old bike
Strengths:Cheap, better than a rigid fork.
Weaknesses:Flexy, bouncy like a pogo stick.
Similar Products Used:Lots of other shocks...
Bike Setup:At the time, I had a Giant ATX970 with Indy SC.
Bottom Line:Okay. Better than a rigid fork. All the whiners who have reviewed this product fail to appreciate that this fork is not a $200 fork, or even a $100 fork. It is also ancient technology. It was not designed for 5-10 foot dropoffs. It IS poorly damped and non-adjustable. It will bottom out. But it is good for light-duty cross country work or for swapping out a rigid fork for cheap.

    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $30.00
    Purchased At:two wheeler dealer
Strengths:1 1/8 threadless steerer tube, is softer than a rigid fork, is 10 years old and still holds me up.
Weaknesses:little adjustment, very flexy, bright yellow paint,
Bike Setup:trek 820 steel frame, mavic 221 rims shimano hubs, avid single digit 7 V-brake, setup single speed
Bottom Line:i wanted to try the whole single speed thing out. it is flat where i live so it is very easy and alot less hassle than a geared bike. i still ride both though. i found a frame in the trash in good shape and needed a fork to finish my project. my local shop had a RS indy SL hanging on the wall in the back room. they sold it to me for 30 bux. i ride pretty hard, and i push my equipment past the point of the average weekend rider. the trails around my home a very rooty and alot of stress is put into this fork. if i were to crash because of this fork, i will know that it was unable to handle what i was doing. anyone that rides as hard as i don on a product such as this should take into consideration the level of punishment it can withstand. i know this fork is older technology but if you are looking for a cheap fork that softens up the front end just enough to take the edge off, then this fork will be fine. if you ride hard, jump, or push the limits of a 10 yearold product then you will be sorry. in the end, know what is under you, and respect what it can do. dont be stupid and expect more than it was designed for. i tried a fully rigid 29er and could not take the stiffness. so when i built my single speed i just wanted a little cush. this fork gave me what i expected.

    Purchased At:Came w/ Kona Lava Dome '98
Strengths:minimal maintenance, b/c there's not much to this shock.
Weaknesses:super rigid = little to no control; almost like riding a rigid fork. even with adjustments, poor response.
Similar Products Used:Marzocchi fork from '95
Bike Setup:'98 kona lava dome; stx/lx mech; xt hubs; mavic 221 rims; easton xc50 riser; clipless; rest stock
Bottom Line:POS fork, i'm pretty sure no one would buy this aftermarket, but if you're considering...please do NOT purchase! this fork was partly to blame for a nasty spill i recently had; shock bottomed out and threw me off the bike! just ordered an '05 Marz Mx Comp w/ETA...can't wait for a smoother ride!!

i gave 2 flamers for value b/c its a very inexpensive fork, but you can buy later model forks for same or less $$$. example: '05 Marz Mx Comp w/ETA - <$200

    Date Reviewed: April 17, 2003
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:Good looking and that's about it.
Weaknesses:I am writting again because I am very disappointed about such a rock shox product. As I said in a review down below, I wanted to change the elastomers in the fork. I never had the chance to do it because all the stores tell me that Rock shox has discontinued the production of parts for these forks. Don't buy this fork. read on, !!, Im not done!!
Similar Products Used:Marzocchi exr comp 2003 (coil spring), Head Shock P-bone, and many cheap kinds too.
    Bike Setup:much better than before
Bottom Line:I continue my negative remarks!!!!! I was fed up of doing nothing during the winter, so I took apart my Indy S. I WAS SHOCKED TO FIND OUT THAT THERE WAS ONLY ONE ELASTOMER IN THE FORK. IT WAS YELLOW AND IT WAS ON THE LEFT SIDE. This is also probably the reason why my fork is slightly out of alignment.
I simply don't understand how such a big company like rock shox can stop the production of such an ordinary piece of rubber which is 15.5 cm long and that has a diameter of 1.8cm. Is it because they ran out of yellow rubber?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? IT'S A MYSTERY!!!!!

    Weaknesses:Have'nt found yet.
Similar Products Used:All the Judy line, Psylo's.
    Bike Setup:Wich one?
Bottom Line:Simply can't understand those "downhiller wannabes" saying that this fork isn't reliable and easily bottomed out.
You have what you pay for. Watcha want for less than 100$???
12 inches of travel and undestructible seals and legs??? Just don't ride that fork if you jump from the house roof or race on railroad track every week.

These forks are VERY good for newcomers in the mountain bike world. I was very pleased with mine and i used it for it's intended use: Light mountain riding. When you're ready for more serious riding, simply get a fork that will give you satisfaction for what you want to do.

C'mon pals, don't give an undeserved reputation to this reliable fork.

    Purchased At:Bicyclette Montréal Nord
Strengths:Smooth, Looks not bad, Low maintenance
Weaknesses:Bottoms out very easily, (I only weigh 160lbs), Pretty flexy and I had to change the insides only after three years of city riding and some trails. Only 3500 miles in three years. That is pretty bad, Don't buy it.NOT ENOUGH TRAVEL.
Bike Setup:Rockshox indy s, Deore deraillers and shifters, sunringle rhynolite rims, etc,etc I changed alot of stuff.
Bottom Line:THIS FORK SUCKS, MAYBE AN RST 281 OR CHEAPER IS PRACTICALLY BETTER. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT BUYING THIS FORK SECOND HAND.This fork is made for a show-off who rides his bike only 20 miles a year.

Bottom Line:If you weigh more than 100lbs., this fork is not for you. I bought this fork on my bike 2 years ago. The elastomers are wore out. They softened and now my fork will bottom out very easily. DO NOT buy any elastomer fork. It will turn to mush. I'm looking at the Z-5 Bomber or Z-4 Bomber from Marzocchi. It uses lo-pressure air so it gets harder as you push farther down on the fork. Much better.

These are an embarassement to the Rock Shox name.
Similar Products Used:Any K-mart, Walmart special suspension
    Bike Setup:Iron Horse
Bottom Line:The only reason I can think that Rock Shox came out with these made in Taiwan shocks, was to make a large profit on their name using an inferior product. Rock Shox should be ashamed at what they did to their name and that is why I will probaly never buy a product associated with Rock Shox again. This could be the main reason they ended making Indy shocks and changed the product lines name to Jett.

Bottom Line:I had this fork last year-I was tweleve and wanted to get into mountain biking so I bought and entry level RS. No real complants till the fork legs started weaving all over the place and the frok fill up with sludge-yes sludge after one ride. Then after about two months of riding I wore right through the stanchion tubecovering and soon through the hole stanchion tube!!! since this shock only has one spring in it (it's in the left-and only in the left) and was paired with a cheap hub the fork kind of well bent to the right. Don't buy this fork get a Jett or an old Judy SL long travel for 80 bucks more.
