Description:Half the size, twice the air! This is the little pump that could. Bomb-proof aluminum, high-impact construction and reinforced plastic parts embrace the rigors of the trail. Oversized barrel pumps to 90 psi and fills tires fast. Fits both Presta and Shrader valves with easy conversion. Integrated mud/dust cap keeps grime out of pump; disassembles easily for cleaning and maintenance. Includes side clip to store pump on bike.

    Date Reviewed: November 30, 2006
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
    Strengths:Small, lightweight, very durable
Weaknesses:Mounts to frame on waterbottle holder screws and sticks out to the side. This leaves the possibility to have a waterbottle also, but I use a Camelbak. I wish it would line up with the bottom tube. Also, I had a minor wreck at night on the trail and it broke the holder (lost my pump)...going to buy another Blackburn, either a Shorty or a Mountain Air.
Bottom Line:Great pump! Sometimes it is stated that the short action doesn't pump the tube up fast enough. I can pump up both of my tires (from flat) in under 2 mins. Other pumps might do it faster but the size is more than worth the trade off.

    Price Paid: $25.00
    Purchased At:Green Mountain Sports
    Strengths:Light, small, durable
Weaknesses:Thumb lock is really hard to get leverage under to lock in place. But then again, I have wimpy fingers like a 12 yr old girl.
Similar Products Used:Zefal, Performance mini pumps
Bike Setup:Do you really care when reading about a pump? ($3000 worth of custom frame and parts)
Bottom Line:Have ridden with this in my camelbak for the last 6 years everywhere. It has always come through for me. It is only recently as I've switched back and forth between Presta and Schraeder that I've cut up the little rubber gasket and broken a little piece off the plastic valve insert. So it is time for a new one.

But it usually didn't take more than 60 to 120 pumps to get a tire on the road again, depending of level of deflation.

I mainly wanted size and durability, and that's what I got.

    Five flaming chilies!

    Purchased At:Jans Mountain Outfitters
Strengths:Very Durable, pumps both schrader and presta valves, small size.
Bottom Line:I also dont know what the poor reviews are about. This pump is durable, light, and easy to use. It is made of quality parts and has treated me well. I have not had to walk because of this pump. It does take a little while to fully inflate a tire, but no different than other small pumps. I do not use the frame clip so I cannot attest to its durability, but the pump itself is great.

Bike Setup:it matters for a pump?
Bottom Line:i don't understand what some of the folks down below are talking about... if you have problems with this pump you probably should take the ENTIRE bike down to the LBS and have them put air in your tires for you.

i have used this pump as my main pump for around 5 years if i remember correctly, maybe more, and i haven't had a problem with it, definately more durable than anything fully plastic out there and i have no trouble reaching 60 psi what so ever.... if you can still find one of these little fat dudes pick it up.

Strengths:Pump worked fine. Liked the compact size.
Weaknesses:Cheap plastic mount bracket for it.
    Bike Setup:Proflex 856
Bottom Line:I was looking for my pump today and noticed that the
bracket that attached it to the bike is broken - and the pump is gone. I have no idea when that happened - never crashed or anything! If you get this pump, make sure you
wrap a velcro strip around the bike frame, and don't just rely on the strap through the crappy bracket!

    Date Reviewed: July 7, 2002
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $22.00
    Purchased At:Dick's Sporting Goods
Strengths:Compact, light weightworks on presta and schraeder valves(supposedly), can be easily taken apart to clean/repair
Weaknesses:weak plastic and rubber parts inside
    Similar Products Used:Mongoose pump
    Bike Setup:Trek 6500 stock setup
Bottom Line:Don't bother setting it up for presta valves, it just wont work and you'll be pushing your bike home. I did get about 3 uses out of it for shrader valves, but the rubber grommet in the pump got all cut up and would catch on the valve stem, the plastic pin inside bent to the side, and the plastic push-rod inside wore a groove from the locking mechanism, making it unusable. This pump is good for maybe 2 emergency uses, otherwise its junk.

    Date Reviewed: May 5, 2002
    Duration Product Used:2 Years
    Price Paid: $30.00
    Strengths:Small...looks good...not bulky..safe.
Fits both presta and shredder valves.
Weaknesses:A little tough to use at first. At times it doesnt go on all the way, so time is wasted. Takes about 1-2 min to pump up a flat.
    Bike Setup:Trek Fuel 80
Bottom Line:Worth the 30 bucks...and you can probably find it at a cheaper price. It really is better for fine adjustments, so dont use it as your main pump, only for the trails.
