    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $50.00

    Strengths:Grip. Looks.
Weaknesses:The desingers didn´t think too long about building a tough and troublefree pedal....
Similar Products Used:Generic Specialized Pedal, Shimano
Bike Setup:light freeride, Lyrik, Evolver ESX ...
Bottom Line:When buying these pedals do the following before use:
    - put extra Loctite on all pins, especially the ones that hold the plates, they are really hard to get if you lose them!
    - grease every part of the axle literally, and regrease them every time when they got wet immediately! The tiny bearing on the crankarm side is prone to get stuck with rust!

Then you will have a great pedals with lots of grip, that are very tough when hitting stones. And you can change the pins from the inside, if you get those damn plates out (you will need a big hammer..)....

Bottom Line:I dont understand these reviews about the pedal litterally falling apart... I havent experienced this yet and I ride my bike almost everyday during between April and October.. I have however had issues with the pedal getting super greasy when theres mud on em' but its nothing longer pins cant cure... Also I broke one of the mounting bolts for one of the plates so now im stuck with the pink plates... Awesome pedal though!!

Strengths:Great looks, familiar and comfortable feel, comes with decent number of replacement parts. great customer service and warranty.
Weaknesses:Too many parts with bolts that CAN loosen and lost
Similar Products Used:various BMX style metal pinned platforms
Bike Setup:sc chameleon, fox forx, sram geared and derailed front and back. all mountian hardtail style.
Bottom Line:I had them for the larger part of the past year and I like them alot still. They look great and impo is grippy enough on the small pins with the right shoes (gum bottom skate/bmw style shoes works bests for me). The parts of the pedal seem relatively bomb proof, but the word "parts" also leads to the problem; being that there is many different pieces that are held together by a series of little allen bolts, they can loosen and part of the actual platform can come apart. This is what happened to me on a ride once only and lost the bolts, but not the plate (these bolts are not included in the extra parts that come with the pedal, btw). Called Crank Bros and they were very good with sending me extra bolts by the next weekend. I found that the other 6 of these bolts were also pretty loose also and CBs advised to use blue loctite. Hadn't had the problem again, but defintely a worry to check before long rides now. I think there is good value in the pedal, but perhaps a solid one piece platform maybe better.

    Weaknesses:Hardwear, pins, price, safety.
Similar Products Used:a wet plastic pedal thats been used for a few years.
Bike Setup:2007 custom kona hoss deluxe
Bottom Line:Bottom line, i think these pedals suck. When i got them they were really good. I brought my bike into the shop about one or two weeks after rideing them and one of the mechanics told me that the pedals literatly fell apart while he was working on my bike. Thinking that this would be the first and last time i retightened the pedal hardwear and forgot about the problem until three days ago when i was downhilling in blue mountain Ontario. Throughout my trip i was constantly loosing my pedal pins on the trails. One would fall about every hour or two and be lost, hence creating a dangerously slipery pedal. Becoming frusterated i kept rideing. I finished one run, looked at my pedals, and noticed that one of the removable plates was once again falling off. The hardwear was completly gone as was all of the pins that were initialy put onto it. luckely my plate didnt fall off on the trail.

To me this is a very serious problem that can cause very serious injuries if malfunction occurs on an advanced feature. This should never happen to any pedal and especulally not on ones that retail for $120.00.

There nice pedals but Crank Brother's need to address the problems stated above because these pedals do have potential to be very good if they could hold up to some abuse.

Honestly, i would not recomend these for your own safety until crank brothers changes their hardwear and pin locking system. Cheers.

Weaknesses:after a few months of riding my right pedal seized up, i work at a bike shop so i took it apart and swapped out the crappy stock grease and that fixed it, BUT now a few months later again my right pedal has developed some side to side play after hitting a fair sized drop by my house, i am going to see if i can fix it today but i have never had to do so much maintenance on a pedal before. also the bolts to hold the color plates on are really weak as in easy to strip out which really sucks.

Strengths:Large platform, very pretty, sturdy, replace pins from underside so allen slot is not wrecked and can easily replace parts of the platform that are likely to be damaged.
Weaknesses:A bit heavy and thick. Also, even with the long pins installed I still slip a bit more that I should even though I wear FiveTen Shoes--I think this is because of the cone-shaped pins.

Bike Setup:2005 Santa Cruz Heckler, XT drivetrain, juicy 7 brakes, swinger 3-way air shock, Fox float 130 mm trail tune fork, Thompson post & stem, Easton EA70 Monkey Bar
Bottom Line:I am happy with them, but it is definately necessary to wear shin protection with these pedals.

IT IS IMPERATIVE TO INSTALL THE LONGER PINS ON THESE PEDALS--THEY ARE ALMOST WORTHLESS WITH THE SHORT PINS. Use locktite and don't overtighten them--they won't come out if properly installed.

They are very pretty and don't even look that bad once they are bashed up.

Overall, 4 stars because they are a bit pricey and I slip on them a little bit more than I would like even with sticky FiveTen shoes.

Strengths:Concave design. Threading the studs from behind.
Weaknesses:The thread walls are too thin resulting in the allen fitting to round off or in some cases causing the stud to split.

Bottom Line:Really nice pedals to look at. Lots of customisation choices. A wee bit on the heavy side.

Be careful changing the studs. I may have had a bad batch, but I found about 4 or 5 studs split where the allen key fits in to tighten the studs. Once they are in, they ain't coming out as it is almost impossible to get a purchase on the smooth, tapered studs with a pair of pliers.

    Strengths:Concave shape.
All parts that usually get smashed are replaceable.
    Wide platform.
    Custom pin placement.
    Weaknesses:Stock pins.
Faff to put the pins in.
Similar Products Used:Shimano MX30's, C'Dale Grind, DMR's (all of them) Easton Flat boys, Burtgec Penthouse flats.
Bike Setup:Originally on my Gemini DH with x.0 Boxxer world cups etc, but now on my CHameleon hardtail, 06 z.1 sl's, x0, hope bulbs etc.
Bottom Line:I first got them because despite how much I loved the grip and feel of my Shimanos, I kept ripping pins out of them, or just mashing them down to the point where I had no pins left, or anyway to get any new ones in.
First couple of times out on them was really disapointed, the platform is really big, but the grip really isn't "great".
Even with long pins fitted, I found them to be lacking in grip. I was riding hopton, one of the pedalyiest most rooty courses in England, and my feet were bouncing around, even with 5ten shoes! I stuck my Shimanos back on and was fine.

I pretty much chucked them in the spare pedals bin for a few months.

Recently, they've released some set screws to retrofit them.

And from a couple of rides out, they are a vast improvement.
They grip really well now, and if you put:
3 pins front and back (1 each edge and 1 in the middle)
then fill the side with pins, but don't put any in the middle, you'll have an awesome pedal that will never need to be completely replaced!

Should come with the set screws though for the £65 retail price!

Strengths:Solid, customizable, pretty, regreasable without taking them apart.
Weaknesses:Heavier than my old pedals, too pretty to bang up.
Similar Products Used:No-name pedals that came on the bike.
Bike Setup:Pro-Flex 756 frame, Manitou SX-R fork, Noleen rear shock, SRAM GripShifters, Avid front disc brake, custom wheels with Mavic rims and Shimano hubs, assorted Shimano XT everywhere else.
Bottom Line:I've seen some people complain about the length of the pins, so I ordered a set of long pins with my new pedals. To my surprise, the pedals ALSO came with long pins, so I don't know why anyone is complaining. Maybe Crank Bros. changed the retail package to include long pins recently. Either way, I have plenty of long pins and plenty of grip.

The cartridge bearings are rough to start off with, but that's to be expected; if the bearings weren't tight at first, they'd get really loose once they get broken in. My pedals spin nice and smooth now.

I really like the grip I get with these pedals. I'd swear they've made me faster than my old no-name POS pedals, just because I feel more comfortable maneuvering the bike with my feet.

The only thing I don't like is the weight. Try as I might, I can't seem to get light parts for my ten-year-old bike, which needs to lose some weight. These pedals are a half-pound heavier than my old pedals, but they're also bigger and much more solid. So I guess it's a tradeoff. I can't complain too much, my bike has seen me through many crashes with little or no damage --- to the bike, anyway. I imagine these pedals will make my bike that much more durable.
