    Purchased At:E-BAY
Strengths:The bike is a dream for the money i paid. Came with hayes disk brakes (mechanical) which work like a charm. It comes with good components for the money. It looks totaly hot. And it rides like a way more expensive bike.
Weaknesses:Shock is way to soft for my weight. If you weight over 170 lb you should consider upgrading your shock or atleast the springs. Springs run for around $80. And new shock will cost you about additional 250. So keep that in mind if you considering bying this bike.

Bottom Line:The bike is just perfect. It's worth every red cent that i paid for it. It's afartoble and very relaible. Shock is too soft but it won't cost you too much to fix that problem. You won't have to spend a lot of money in order to get a very good bike. You should defenitly get this bike.

    Favorite Trail:everywhere
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
    Price Paid: $145.00
Purchased At:a pawn shop back in 1995
Strengths:Well, I got this bike in '95 from a pawn shop...it's a '91 model I think. I put Rock Shox Indy S on the front a little after I got it. This bike rocks! Stable, easy to ride, durable, you can ride it hard and it comes out fine. Best bike I've ever owned(I'm 16 BTW).
Weaknesses:Mostly my fault, from not being moved the seat post fused with the frame, my dad tried to get it unstuck, and it's really stuck in there and won't come out for nothing...the top of the seat post was weak and just broke off by me just trying to turn the seat, so it's unrideable :( Also had an intermitten gear slam(like it missed a tooth but the gears are fine), and the chain broke off and almost hit someone's car...
Similar Products Used:Roadmaster Razor's Edge, junk, total junk.
Bike Setup:1991 Iguana 21 speed, Rock Shox Indy S, rapid fire shifters, Trek speedometer, Shimano everything, black with the gold marks.
Bottom Line:An awsome bike in every way. After 7 years of use, the only reason it's not rideable is my fault. It goes through everything in stride. Try going to some pawn shops and pick one of these up like I did. I suggest this bike for advanced cycleing kids that can ride it hard but yet know what they are doing.

Strengths:Strong frame, nice forgiving ride, the STX and alivio parts actually hold up pretty well to a 240 Clydesdale.
    Weaknesses:HEAVY!!!
Similar Products Used:Gary Fisher Paragon (current off-road ride)
    Bike Setup:'96 Giant Iguana 650
stock except Shimano 545 clipless pedals, Conti Double Fighter tires, LX V-brakes, Serfas RX saddle, Avenir bar ends.
Bottom Line:This is one tough bike!!! I bought it in Feb. of 97 for $435 and have gotten MORE than my $$$ worth. I'm 240lb and it has held up to everything i've put it through. The deraileurs work surprisingly well and the cromoly is pretty forgiving.
I now use it mainly for neighborhood rides with my wife and 2 kids; it's retired from hard riding. But, if I decided to take it out again, it would be there for me.
A lot of people rag on the Wienman 519 rims but they have been nothing but good to me. I just finally needed some suspension so I bought a Paragon, but will always love and respect my Giant.
The only negative is it's HEAVY!!! I didn't think it was until I got my new bike. But, if you can climb on a heavy bike, you can really climb on a light bike.

Bottom Line:This was the very first good bike I ever purchased: $400 at a local shop. Eventually, I built it up with XT brakes-the Alivio/STX gruppo worked great-and took out the rigid fork and replaced it with a Manitou ProC threadless fork. I also took off the platform pedals and put on a Nashbar clipless...What an improvement! It was a great set-up for someone just learning how to ride.My Iguana was a 1997 dark green metallic with white and gold graphics.

Bottom Line:If I knew then what I know now, I would have spent more and gotten a bike with a threadless headset, and a common seatpost size, so it would be easier to upgrade. However, at 350$, it is a sweet, strong, smooth bike. I test rode the Gary Fisher Wahoo and next to it, this bike was more stable, smoother, and had better components. It is a 98 Iguana, and I love it so far. The hubs seals come off easy, and have required some maintenence, but otherwise I have ridden about 15 miles a day on many terrain types and it has been a winner. Great bang for the buck!

I have an Iguana SE with a Rock Shox front suspension, Rapid Fire Shifters, 21 speed, etc. I like the bike and the way it handles, however I have a little problem with it, and was wondering if anyone else has had a similiar experience. About 4-5 miles into a ride the bike develops a clicking noise in the right crank arm. The dealer tightened a few screws, and even replaces the bottom bracket, but the problem is still there. I doubt if it is serious or even dangerous in any way, but it is EXTREMELY annoying. The clicking can be felt in the pedal, both with foot in or out or the sturups. I would appreciate any feedbavk on this. As of right now, I plan to sell the bike and never buy another Giant. I will be going back to Specialized, as they seem to built a far superior bike, in my opinion.

But this bike is competent bike, but some good things to bolt onto your spanking new bike are bar ends, clipless pedals and if you are feeling rich shocks.Dave

What a difference. I'm getting up hills easily that I couldn't get up before - it seems like I'm always right on top of my bike. I bought this bike a month ago, and it's great. I do alot of riding, and it hasn't let me down yet. It's a great handler, and it's fairly light for the price. I love the V-brakes. I had canti's on my old bike, and the v's are a huge improvement.P.S. Never ever ever ever ever buy CCM bikes.

THis is THE bike for the BIG guy.....25.5 frame with the strength to take me this 2000 miles do far. Bike commute? No problem. Desert fire roads, no biggie. It has done it all with my 300+ lbs. on top of it. THe cool brushed finish make for a ral head turner.
That is not to say I haven` changed it around a little......
    Azonic 2.5 riser bar
    8 sp. conversion
An actual seat..gel with springs(funky lookin` but real sweet on the seat)
Girvin Flexstem(at $7 who could pass)
    Oury grips
    Onza bar ends
And a set of Troika prototype wheels.......thanks Craig
The only thing is, with this L-O-N-G steerer, I can`t find a shock for it....and if it keeps getting worse, I may have to sell the bike as I had back surgery and I lose the feeling in my legs if I ride too long. Can anyone help with this? I like mine threaded. THe 25.5 is the only one that doeesn`t come in the SE model. Why can`t Giant get their shocks the length they want?

Just got the Iguana SE, with shocks. Have had it for two months now. I crash more than I fly, and think the bike is pretty durable and easy to maneuver. The big test will be taking it to White Tail ski resort for a full day of down hill this summer. I've had to carry it quite a bit, and for a 135lb shorty like myself, I find the bike is no burden at all. It' may not be as fancy as some of those new bikes coming out, but it's simply a good bike without the steep prices. I just wish I'd see more of them on the trails when I'm out riding:)

I purchased an Iguana a couple of months ago. I chose it based on its entry level price and acceptable quality componetry. And I must say that besides the fact that my woman now calls me a bumble bee (based on the paint job and factory stickers), I really like this bike! I have ridden nearly everyday since purchase, at times over some trecherous desert terrain, all without incident. Definitely worth its paltry price tag.

I really like this ride. It has some decent, mid-range components that work quite reliably. The frame is as good as it gets in the Chro-Mo market. It will probably outlast me if the frame is taken care of. Although it is a bit heavy, the price tag is light. Enjoy.

purchased my Iguana SE in November of 97, awesome paintjob caught my eye,
and after checking the components, figured there was no way to go wrong.
mainly ride on paved/gravel roads, but recently got off road and the bike
preformed flawlessly. (paved/gravel comes into play while working P.D. bike
patrol) nice to have a GIANT Iguana between your legs.

I recently bought an Iguana SE (Alevio/STX; Rock Shox Indy S; good Shimano shifter; Diacompe 7 brakes; upgraded chain; bar ends) and have put it through its paces for about a month. My verdict: for $699 Can (equivalent to $460 US), who could ask for more? You could spend a bundle to shave a few pounds or get flashier comps on a higher- machine, but for a rec rider what's the point? (Some guys feel they need 90 megs of RAM in their computer when all they do is send email and surf.) This very solid ride seems like a very solid value: great handling, smooth shifting, and built to last. Go for it!

I have the 95 Giant Iguana SE with RST 381 shock. It is soo very smooth. I think this bike rocks! The front derailer is nice to upgrade, but at this price range, that isn't a complaint. This is a great all-around bike that will take you anywhere without killing your credit rating....
