$730.00 | | Purchased At: | Sport Systems | | Strengths: | Strong frame. Single point bearing joint for rear suspension. Plush ride front shock with injector points for oil maintenance. Avid disk brakes. | | Weaknesses: | IT'S A BIG PIG!!!! 31.5 lbs is a low estimate. | | Similar Products Used: | '92 Rockhopper (rigid) | | Bike Setup: | LX rear D, Alivio front D, Fusion Shox Clyde Super reat shock, Manitou Six front shock | | Bottom Line: | Not a bad full suspension bike for my first choice. I haven't taken any major drops on it yet. The bike handles well over granite moguls and deep wash-board ruts. I'm still getting used to the inertia on sharp single track turns caused by the massive frame and tires. Haven't noticed any flaws with the suspension. Probably due to the fact that I'm 165 lbs, I don't challenge the frames tensor strength at the pivot point. Also, 11 years on a rigid has probably taught me a few riding skills that will most likely prolong the frame's integrity. The jury's still out on whether or not the bike can take a decent drop without breaking. Seems to handle 1-2 foot drops without incident. Not a bad bike, wish the frame was a tad lighter (i.e. about 4 lbs lighter). Other than that I'm getting a good workout and having a blast. If you're not concerned about weight buy this bike. Word of warning...the 2003 is even heavier!!! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Chicopee Date Reviewed: April 16, 2003 | | Duration Product Used: | 1 Year | | Purchased At: | 900.00 | | Strengths: | It's under s grand? But considering what you get, I'm not sure that's a strength | | Weaknesses: | Frame sucks hard, snaps very easily at the pivot point. Components are mostly garbage, teeth on the cranks are ramped, fork and pedals suck, I can't decide about the rear shock | | Similar Products Used: | nothing similar to the piece-o-crap | | Bike Setup: | Stock, except for seat and rubber | | Bottom Line: | I decided to write another review becuase of the piss poor service Haro provided me after snapping their "extreme" frame. Take a look at the other reviews of this bike, the X1 & X3 are the same crap. Alot of people have snapped these in half, all at the same location too! Don't understand why Haro hasn't fixed this. My shock leaked within a month of purchase, sent it back, got it replaced and then the frame ripped in half! Listen to the other reviewers, this bike is advertised as an extreme huck/north shore type bike! That is nothing short of an outright LIE! This bike is a weak ass XC bike that weighs too much to be any good at that. Haro blamed me for all of this. Apparently only idiots buy their bikes? Cause none of us can seem to keep them in one peice! Haro told me they were not warrantying my frame under good faith, just to get me off their back! What kinda crap is that? The guy never saw my bike or comprehended how it happened, and yet he has enough evidence to claim its my fault for not setting the prelod right! More B.S., I went to the chock companies web site and had my bike shop set it up. The service at Haro sucks, and they DO NOT back their product or what they say(i.e. "extreme"). If you wanna blow $900.00 on a full-suspension bike, shop elsewhere. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$900.00 | | Purchased At: | Copelands sports | | Strengths: | Price and Haros marketing dept. | | Weaknesses: | Everything else, being nearly 40 years old i thought that when i bought this bike it would last longer than 6 months.Don't believe what you read in the magazines this bike can't take a drop off a curb without tearing the shock mount right out of the down tube. Now well see what kind of crappy customer service i can get from haro and the shop i bought it from. | | Bottom Line: | Don't buy this bike unless you want too throw your money away! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$800.00 | | Purchased At: | Gold Country Bicycles | | Strengths: | Durability; Disc brakes are great, suspension doesn't bounce as much as other bikes i've ridden. | | Weaknesses: | the shocks and forks are slighty soft for my wieght of 170. | | Similar Products Used: | none | | Bike Setup: | forks and shocks are set stiff. so i can not worry about bottoming on a fast downhill | | Bottom Line: | i love this bike. For the value i have disc brakes and a 24 speed, great for a little bit of everything | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$890.00 | | Purchased At: | western cycles | | Strengths: | cheap, if you dont ride hard or huck much it's fine | | Weaknesses: | CHEAP!!!! in quality. | | Similar Products Used: | none | | Bike Setup: | odi lock ons, race face riser bars, LX splined cranks, Fox Vanilla 125, tioga DH | | Bottom Line: | In less than six months, I have had to replace the shock (& spring).... And now THE FRAME BROKE IN TWO, I found out the hard way why I saved so much $. Still waiting to see if Haro will warranty it. It snapped right at the pivot weld, and it wasn't pretty. As I mentioned, I do ride hard, but I am far from pro (5ft. max.) Anyway, anything that breaks in less than a half a year is NOT worth ANYONE's $... That is the bottom line, Do not listen to Haro's PR, there is nothing extreme about this bike, except what a rip-off it is. Too heavy for xc, so I don't see another use for it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$803.00 | | Purchased At: | Bob's Bicycle | | Strengths: | Ton of features for less than $1 grand! 5" rear travel, adjustable front and rear shocks. Handles well flying downhill and makes a great all around MTB. Smooth shifting if you ride on flat land.(cross country) | | Weaknesses: | Upgraded the pedals. Derailleurs kind of underperform when putting extreme/moderate pressure while shifting.(uphill) Recommend upgrading both pedals and Derailleurs. No problems with crank....yet. Possably upgrade the front forks also, kinda stiff. | | Bottom Line: | For $803, you can't find another bike that compares to the Haro Extreme X2. With some minor upgrades you can have a equivalent $2K bike for half the price. Overall this bike does it all! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$903.00 | | Purchased At: | Timpanogos Cyclery | | Strengths: | This bike has a strong frame and a good rear shock, the disc brakes are great for instant stopping, I also like the rear derailer though. | | Weaknesses: | The front forks arent the greatest, I'd suggest the rock shox psylos. The seat kills you after a while and the pedals kind of get annoying with the foot straps on them. | | Similar Products Used: | None | | Bike Setup: | Stock, other than, I will step up to the psylos in the next week or so. | | Bottom Line: | Bottom line is, great bike for the money, just make a few changes like the shocks and the crankset and that would put you on a sweet ride. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$810.00 | | Purchased At: | Hoback Sports | | Strengths: | sweet bike-very affordable. avid disc brakes are awesome! you get 5 in. of rear travel for under $1k.Rhyno lites are bomb proof and fork is plush when broken in-but, i weigh only 120 lbs. | | Weaknesses: | chainrings are weak-busted one already and the pedals really suck | | Similar Products Used: | this is my 1st ful suspension bike- i'm only 14 | | Bike Setup: | only things so far is the new chainring and Azonic platform pedals | | Bottom Line: | this bike rips- i love it! you should buy this bike if you are on a budget and like to jump, drop, or just plain ride. but, the pedals must go if you believe in good traction, and beware when you're in a place w/ lots of fallen trees and crap like that- the chainrings wont hold out. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$850.00 | | Purchased At: | Ski Market, Shrewsbury, MA | | Strengths: | Great Design, tough frame. Price point (5" rear travel, w/Disk brakes stock- under $1k?!?!). Great all around bike, light enought for cross country, tough enough for most downhill hucks. Contrary to what Twister has said, I think the shocks are great. The rebound adjust on the rear shock is great, and they say the Manitou front doesn't begin to shine until you put at least 150 miles on it. | | Weaknesses: | The Truvativ P.o.S 5D Crankset, which I broke exactly as the first reviewer of the product here at mtbr.com described. The front deraileur which can't handle the 22 to 32 upshift under any presure (causing the crankset failure), and last but not least, the joke they played with thoses things you're supposed to put your feet on. | | Similar Products Used: | Don't laugh, really- WalMart special Mongoose MGX full suspension. | | Bike Setup: | Now- stock. Soon- Some (?) ISIS crankset and BB. A better front deraileur, and Kona Jacksh*t (I just like saying that) pedals. | | Bottom Line: | This is THE bike for the bucks. I have a friend who rides a much older Haro Extreme, and he is a big dude (6'3") and he has yet to break it. Should be really good in the long run. I would recommend this bike to anyone!! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$892.00 | | Purchased At: | Western Cycles | | Strengths: | Nice frame, components, & disc brakes | | Weaknesses: | Primarily the shocks, front & rear, but also the cranks & b.b. | | Similar Products Used: | None, I had a sweet hardtail before this | | Bike Setup: | Add Ons: Race Face riserbar, Azonic Hot Seat, LX cranks-b.b.-casette, Black Spire rock ring, ODI Lock-On grips, and Specialized clipless pedals. The rest is stock | | Bottom Line: | Great bike for the money.... Although I am a little disappointed that the rear shock has already blown a seal & is being serviced. The waiting is the hardest part... Anywho, the bike rides great, survives huck's, and surprisingly doesn't climb that bad once you get used to it. Nothing can come near it for the price, but there are sacrifices... the fork, shock, pedals, and cranks are low budget products. I warped the teeth in under three months! I do ride aggresively & regularly, but am not dropping anymore than four feet. My suggestion, if you weigh over 175, replace the stock spring with a stiffer one and save yourself the headache. Otherwise I've got nothing but praise for this machine:) | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
