Favorite Trail:Palos, Bullfrog
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $400.00
Purchased At:Richard's, X-Mas clearance special
Strengths:Big beefy frame with strong components. Solid bike and durable. I weigh 230lbs and ride it hard. Disk brakes work great. Great for downhill, drops and jumps. Great all around bike. Best bang for the buck I ever spent.
Weaknesses:Fork is kind of loud and chattery but will take a beating and will last for this season, maybe:) Might have to upgrade for next year. Seat was uncomfortable and changed it out right away. Derailleur kind of loud but does it's job. Grips get very slippery when riding in hot humid weather without gloves. Those will got too. But seriously, I couldn't find any major flaws with this bike and it's components.
Similar Products Used:Trek 6500
Bottom Line:Totally recommend for larger people who like to ride hard and need equipment that will take a beating, and also looking for a deal. Surprisingly not too many out there.

Favorite Trail:Atlantic Beach's Hanna Park
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $588.00
Purchased At:Champion Cycling
Strengths:Light weight tank. Solid ride. Awesome geometry. This hardtail is a great ride.
Weaknesses:The pedals that came with it are dissapointing-walmart quality. I added shimano's m-545.
Similar Products Used:Giant nrs2 & iguana. Specialized hardrock comp. Feul 90.
Bike Setup:03'marzocchi exr bomber, truvativ firex cranks, avid mech disk, shimano deore shifters, shimano lx front/rear der, shimano m-545 pedals, titec hellbent bar, wilderness trail rims, yada yada.
Bottom Line:This is a great ride for the $$$ compared to alot of the nationally based companies. The components that came with this bike are not the best on the market nor are they bottom line. The components were better than what giant and specialized offered on there stock bikes. This bike is upgradable. I have read other reviews on this bike and for some reason I didn't get the same front suspension that they have had problems with. I just got it and up to this point I am very satisfied.

Favorite Trail:Red Gate
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $599.00
Purchased At:Richards Bikes Palos Hts
Strengths:The thick frame feels very solid, yet the bike feels light due to the aluminum frame. The tires are big ole nobbys which feel like they can take anything and climb anything.
The adjustable suspension is a great feature, I use it
to get the kind of ride I want depending on the terrain
and kind of ride i'm on.
This is my first bike with disc brakes. The brakes performed great even in the heavy rain and mud with 40 lbs.
of camping equipment disbursed between me and the bike.
Weaknesses:As I stated in the products strength about the 40 lbs. of equipment. I would have liked to use a rack on the back of
the bike that mounts to the frame which I was told the 8.2
is not designed for such a rack. I am currently using a trek
seat post clamp rack and it is working very well and I have not had any problems but I would still prefer a rack mounted to the frame.
THE SEAT killed my ass!!!
The seat is more of a racing type seat and is built to be
light not comfortable. I had to get a trek gel filled seat.
Similar Products Used:Schwinn Mountain Bike, Trek 4900
Bike Setup:Stock, 19.5" , I'm 6'1" 170lbs and the bike feels like a good fit.
Bottom Line:I am very happy with my purchase and I feel the bike is worth what I paid for it. I've used the bike in all types
of conditions including snow in 15 degree weather (cabin fever)and I have'nt had any problems. I know i've only owned the bike since early October but in that time i've
put a lot of tough miles on it and it never let me down.

Purchased At:Palm Beach Super Cycles
Strengths:Haro Escape 8.2 2003. Great components for the money, Strong Frame, Great Brakes (once Worn In), Exremely Fast, Love The Forks
Weaknesses:High Top Rail (Nut Cracker), Heavy, Extremely!!!Hard Seat(Doctor Vercectamy Seat)
Similar Products Used:Giant Rainer, Trek, Haro v4
Bike Setup:Stock, 19.5inch
Bottom Line:Went to the bike shop looking for a 800 dollar bike, then I saw the HARO, fell in love with looks and that was it. Second day i had it I rode to work and pulley in to a blind corner at full speed as another biker was coming the other way. CRASHHHHHHH. Went over the handle bars, Head butted the other guy with my helmet and fell on my butt. A couple of bumps and bruises later i arrived at work late with a rip in the seat and a scratch on the disk brake adjuster and that was it. Couldn't beleive it full impact on the forks and no damage!!!! I love this bike (Had it up to 66kph on mtb tyres (should of heard the sound from the tyres), reckon i can get it up to 75-80 on the right road with road tyres. This is my first real mtb and i would recommend this bike to anyone. Would go for the 17.5 inch if I had a second chance (I am 5"9 and have a 80 cm inner leg

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $540.00
Purchased At:Action Wheels, Bethlehem PA - Great Bike Shop
Strengths:Strengths are the level of componentry for the money, and the great frame (don't know why they changed if for 2003!). Avid disc brakes front and rear are really enjoyable. I'm satisfied with the suspension fork, but have nothing to compare it to since I'm coming from a MTB with no suspension. The stock seat provides great comfort. A real change from my previous seat.
Weaknesses:No real weaknesses with the bike itself. The Intense 2.25" tires are fine off road, but provide considerable rolling resistence. It's likely I'll change tires. Unlike others who have reviewed this bike, I'm satisfied with the pedals and straps, as I've used straps for over 25 years on road and mountain bikes.
Similar Products Used:1992 Miyata Elevation Mountain Bike - No suspension
Bike Setup:Haro Escape 8.2 (Silver/Charcoal 15.5”): Manitou SIX Comp (100mm); Avid disc brakes (f&r); Shimano LX rear derailleur; Shimano Alivio shifters and front derailleur (8-speed); ProMax brake levers; TruVativ 5D Cranks; SRAM 5.0 cassette (8-speed 11-32T); Shimano IG51 Chain (8-speed); Alex DM18 Doublewall rims (32H); Intense 2.25" CC tires; Haro disc hubs, handlebar, stem, and seatpost; WTB Inner Peace ST headset and Speed V Comp saddle.
Bottom Line:I'm very satisfied with this bike just the way it was set up when I purchased it. The frame fits me just fine, and I've quickly adjusted to the shifters and brakes. A real pleasure to ride.

Strengths:Great Components for the price. Tough all around. I love the mud guard on the front.
Weaknesses:Pedals aren't that great. The chain needed tightening
Similar Products Used:Old Mtn Tech Peak. Raleigh M80 and M600. Gary Fisher Tassajara.
Bike Setup:All stock
Bottom Line:This is my first real mountain bike and I haven't had it fail me yet. I love how it feels to me and I feel it performs well for how much I ride. It was a great deal. I ordered it specially and because they had stopped making the color I wanted they threw in another discount. I am happy with the components it comes with. I have only fallen twice on the same trail. That was my fault and I have a cracked tooth to prove it. All I can say is if you are looking for a good bike to get into mountain biking with I would suggest it. I love the fact that the bar bends near the seat. It has saved my jewels a few times plus it enables you to get lower on your bike if you need to duck under a tree or something. Take it for a ride and I am sure you will appreciate it as much as I do. I give it 5 flamin' chilis all around. It is worth all I spent on it.

Strengths:I love this bike! It looks amazing, it's light and climbs incredibly well, its got a beafy frame which means it can take rough terrain and big jumps, I love Avid discs and the 100mm Manitou SIX Comps (I love loose forks), I love everything about this bike and proabably will not chainge anything for a very long time (except for the foot straps which i completely removed before even riding the bike). Honestly there are none for my type of riding. I ride everyday offroad in rough terrain and take big jumps, its got the strong frame to take anything you throw at it, long travel forks to take in those landings (I do up to 5 footers), incredible brakes to haul you down whenever you need to (love those Avids after they're broken in which takes like an hour), double wall rims, great big tires, yet still light way for uphill riding (definitely required for my type of riding). This thing shifts flawlessly, rised, flawlessly and I love it!!
Weaknesses:Toe straps (can remove them in under 2 minutes)
No kickstand (easily solved by getting the Quickstand from Performance Bike)
--These are not really weaknesses.
Similar Products Used:Schwinn Frontier FS (doesn't compare, I don't have to tell you that); friend's dealer-customized schwinn moab (full Deore, Magnum forks, very nice, not to be considered 'Schwinn' because it's only got a schwinn frame, saddle, maybe stem and headset, stuff like that)--this bike made me realize how terrible my frontier was, I am forever greatful..I wouldn't have my Haro otherwise!
Bike Setup:Haro Escape 8.2 (Red/Black 19.5”): Manitou SIX Comp (100mm); Avid disc brakes (f&r); Shimano LX rear derailleur; Shimano Alivio shifters and front derailleur (8-speed); ProMax brake levers; TruVativ 5D Cranks; SRAM 5.0 cassette (8-speed 11-32T); Shimano IG51 Chain (8-speed); Alex DM18 Doublewall rims (32H); Intense 2.25" CC tires; Haro disc hubs, handlebar, stem, and seatpost; WTB Inner Peace ST headset and Speed V Comp saddle.

Looked at '03 Giant Rainier, Gary Fisher Tassajara Disc, '03 Giant Iguana Disc, Jamis Eureka. Haro Escape 8.2 is the best!
Bottom Line:Get this bike. The only upgrade I see in the near future is a $20 LX front derailleur, which doesn't even really matter. I love this bike.

Strengths:Strong light frame and good running gear.
Weaknesses:Cheap disc brakes, cheap pedals.
Similar Products Used:Scott, Kuna, Specialized....
Bike Setup:19.5", Shimano LX rear derailleur, IG51 chain, Manitou Six comp forks (100mm), Truvative 5D crank, Alex DM18 rims... etc
Bottom Line:Great value hard-tail MTB. I hit the trails on the week-ends and hard-core the city during the week. This bike creams stairs, gutters and kerbs and feels real solid thus giving me the confidence to go a little harder. With a new model coming out in a couple of months my local bike store cut the guts out of the price. I'm a happy man! Upgraded pedals to Azonic 3056D's. Will need to look at upgrading brakes in the future.

Similar Products Used:GT Avalanche 1.0

Bottom Line:This bike has been great on all types of riding conditions. The frame is super strong and has taken some serious bust with no problem. I would definetly buy another one.

Strengths:This is the most incredible hartail i have ever ridden for such an affordable price. i didnt have much chance to ride it on trails, but upon getting upwards of 2 feet of air off jumps, i quickly realized that this was my bike. It is a very smooth ride, and although the disk brakes are not top of the line, they are incredible, stop on a dime.
Weaknesses:only 15% dampening adjust on shocks.

Weaknesses:The tires, and the forks.
