$269.00 | | Purchased At: | Oshmans | | Strengths: | Relatively light, decent fork, a medium frame fits more like a large, cool paint that changes color in the sun | | Weaknesses: | Cheap pedals (you have to give something up at this price point) and I have had problems with it throwing the chain off the granny chainring | | Similar Products Used: | LOTS | | Bottom Line: | This was my friend's bike, which he purchased as an impulse mostly because he wanted to go mountain biking with me. Basically that meant that he paid full retail price and settled for a size that was too small for him. Fortunately, the bike represents an awesome value at its price. You get a nice aluminum frame, a good suspension fork that actually can handle 200+ lbs, and some decent shifting components (except one thing discussed below). Also, the sizing of this bike is rather interesting. It is labeled as a medium 17.5 in. frame, but it actually measures 19.5 inches center to top. That makes it usable to even a 6 footer like me.
My friend since moved away and I managed to buy the bike from him, so now I have it. I have had a couple of minor issues with the bike. First, I could never get it to shift properly or get the chain to run quietly on the rear cogs. At first it seemed like the derailleur cable tension was off, but I messed with adjusting that for quite a while and never got it to shift right. I finally decided to try swapping in a different rear wheel with a 7 speed freewheel and that fixed the problem. Then I knew that the cheapo Sunrace cassette was causing the shifting problems. So, after swapping out that crappy cassette on the original rear wheel, the bike shifts flawlessly.
The next problem the bike seems to suffer from is that the chain likes to jump off the granny chainring. Ive had this problem on other cheap bikes, but on this one, the spacing between the crank and bottom bracket are just wide enough to let the chain jam down in between, but yet it wont come out. The first time this happen I twisted the crap out of the chain trying to pull it out. I learned my lesson and so when it happened again, I walked the bike home and used my crank puller to get the chain out. Now I am thinking that one of those nifty little front derailleur chain keepers will solve the problem.
There is no such thing as a perfect bike, especially at this price. Overall, I give the bike 4 flaming turds, but it is still a great value so I award 5 turds there. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$269.00 | | Strengths: | frame, cost, and quality. | | Weaknesses: | pedals were the biggest weaknesses. | | Bike Setup: | Changed pedals. | | Bottom Line: | I was lookin for a good bike that would perfectly meet my needs, a mountain bike that was a light bike with an aluminum frame. And now here I am, with the Haro V1 This bike is great. It is very light, and durable. If you're not an extreme rider, this is the right bike for you. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$289.00 | | Purchased At: | Galyans | | Strengths: | Price, Value, durability | | Weaknesses: | Petals (mine became stripped after 1 week!) | | Similar Products Used: | Mongoose a40r | | Bottom Line: | Great bike for the value.
I wanted to get a mountain bike so I showed up at Galyans. Looked around and found this Haro for only $289.00. Didn't know too much about bikes but it rode nice. I remember Haro makes sweet dirt bikes from when I was younger.
Now, 3 months and hundreds of miles later, this bike is well worth the money. I started researching bikes AFTER I bought mine, so thank God I got lucky with this bike.
Now that I'm more experienced and knowledgable, I'd definitely recommend this bike. I think it's even better than some Giant and Specialized that my friends bought.

$269.00 | | Purchased At: | Lebo's Pedal Parlor | | Strengths: | This is a great mountain bike for my son. He loves to ride and the bike keeps up with him well. Great price. | | Weaknesses: | The pedals. Only bad thing was we didn't have a great selection of colors in his size. | | Similar Products Used: | Wore out the WalMart specials in less than one year. | | Bike Setup: | Kept the basic and added the water bottle and kick stand. Did want him to lay it on the ground. | | Bottom Line: | My son is 9 and this was a great investment for him. It pedals nicely and he will get a lot more use out of it the his other bikes. This was his first true mountain bike and it is worth every penny. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$350.00 | | Purchased At: | South County Cyclery | | Strengths: | Definitely price. Great entry level bike. Seat is super comfy. | | Weaknesses: | Knew the pedals were junk when i checked out the bike in the store, so i had them put on some Free Agent Jump pedals, which have worked great. The shifting has kinda sucked the last few months, even after having the bike adjusted, it still has a hard time in those critical moments when a big rock jumps in front of you or some jackass in a car decides that they need to see how fast you can start out going uphill on a street. | | Similar Products Used: | First bike was a Next bike from walmart. Piece of poo, didn't last 5 weeks. | | Bike Setup: | Added Free Agent dirt jump pedals from a BMX bike, Continental road slicks for daily commute. | | Bottom Line: | This is a great ENTRY LEVEL bike, would recommend it to anybody that is looking for a bike to ride to work or school, but you could probably find better for trail riding. It has lasted me quite a while. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$279.00 | | Strengths: | EXCELLENT VALUE FOR THE MONEY. GOOD BALANCE IN THE ROUGH. PERFECT FOR RADICAL 40 YR OLDS | | Weaknesses: | PEDALS LASTED 1 WEEK AND STARTED SINGING. SEAT COMFORTABLE BUT TOO SOFT. I HAVE YET TO GET THE SHIMANO ACERA SHIFTER SET RIGHT. | | Bike Setup: | TREE BASHING
| | Bottom Line: | I'M VERY HAPPY WITH THE BIKE ALTHOUGH I NOW WISH I HAD V2 OR V3 MODEL | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$270.00 | | Purchased At: | South County Cyclery | | Strengths: | Strong but light frame, everything works and it rides solid. Overall I would say that it's biggest strength is Value. | | Weaknesses: | As the previous reviewer noted - just the pedals, which I will change soon. | | Similar Products Used: | I tried out a Giant Rincon which rode fine but felt (and is) a few pounds heavier. I think I made the right choice. | | Bike Setup: | When I bought the bike I upgraded the saddle and swapped the handle bars to one with a bit of swept back bend (the stock bars are straight). I have added Titec bar ends, and that's it. | | Bottom Line: | This bike is an excellent value. Seems like a good example of what can happen as technology trickles down into less expensive products over time. I bought it to try out the sport and I'm definitely hooked, partly because I enjoy this bike so much. I'm riding almost daily (dirt and street) for over four months and have had no problems with it. As an entry level bike it's perfect and has the 'stuff' to keep up with my friends more expensive (but 5 year old) machines. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$269.00 | | Purchased At: | galyans | | Strengths: | The frame is light, but also rigid. It makes for a nice ride. The front shock has held up very well but, I don't do a lot of jumping and such. I also weigh 180 lbs. | | Weaknesses: | The pedals were junk but, most are on bikes in this price range. | | Similar Products Used: | My old bike was a motiv. Don't laugh I rode that bike for over 10 years and it held up well. | | Bike Setup: | I put a titec stem on it and changed the pedals. | | Bottom Line: | For the price you can't beat this bike. It gives you a nice ride and can take the abuse. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
