Strengths:
the bikes main strength is its strength. I ride alot of trials and im not the smoothest rider out there, but the frames still holding out well after a year of hammering it hard. its got sweet handling even with rigid forks fitted. and the bottom bracket is nice and high.the wheels are good, but i keep snapping the black spokes.
Weaknesses:
i had the shop take the disk brake off before i bought the bike and put on a v-brake, which both works better and dropped the price. the only real problem was the cranks, which snapped after around six months. also, the seatpost wont drop all the way because it hits a weld. easy solution is to have a long and short post.

Bike Setup:
rigid forks, xtr cranks with 32 tooth, 22 tooth rings and bash ring
Bottom Line:
awesomly strong bike with a few niggles. anyone who wants a good value, hard riding hard tail should consider it. change the cranks for something stronger though, and put a v-brake on the front. otherwise, its a reliable bike that begs to be hammered.

Strengths:
EXCELLENT value. Haro did not go cheap when speccing this bike. True, it is not the best stuff in the world but for the price, you can't beat it. The frame alone is worth the price. The Manitou Magnum has performed far and away better than I expected it to. I was expecting it to be on of the first replacement parts but there really is no need. It works great. Awesome all around bike.
Weaknesses:
Only three. The disc brake is weak. I am not so sure it is the disc brakes fault though (although the brake itself did fall apart a couple times on the trail). The front hub on my bike pushes the rotor into the fork and it constantly grinds. (This was fixed by throwing on a used avid v brake, and it works better than the cable pull disc anyway) Secondly, the handlebar seems to be a bit narrow at the grips. I have tried several different types of grips and they continue to easily slide off. I had to resort to buying oury grips and zip tying the crap out of em. They work fine now, but would like to have avoided the problem in the first place (by the way, this isn't just normal grip slippage. This is grips sliding on and off effortlessly) Thirdly, the cranks could use some beefing up. They have served their purpose so far, but I would be more confident if I had something a bit more beefy.

Bike Setup:
Pretty much stock....I have added a few minor things like a rollamajig, front fender and new saddle, but componetry-wise stock (except for my improvised front v-brake)
Bottom Line:
Bottom line with this bike is that it is a great value. I ride mostly cross country but have never really gotten that involved in racing. (This is definitely NOT a xc racing bike at 30 pounds) But if you enjoy hitting rougher than usual xc courses or even just enjoy jumping, then I would consider this bike. Stock is fine....but also worthy of buying and upgrading to your hearts content. Great bike for the money.....Bottom Line.

great frame, the pedals have great grip and are huge but lite, tires have great grip, fork works suprising better than i thought it was going to, the price i have the very last 2000 model so i called haro and got it 250 bucks off!
Weaknesses:
the rims are crap and i already bent the chainring but im just gonna buy a better crankset, the disc brske rubs at first until you get it in tune but it still isnt that great

Bottom Line:
this is a great bike for anyone that wants a tough frame with downhill and jumping attitude but is easy on your wallet im gonna give it five flamin chili's for value and five for overall caus the frame is super beefy and i just need to get some better components
note: the 2001 model is called the haro escape 8.2

Strengths:
Great value!!! There are parts on this bike that are on other bikes that cost 3x as much. The front discs and rear shimano v's are excellent. Great pedals! The forks work fine. The frame has good geometry and is disc brake compatible and the paint job and graphics on the frame are awesome. The mostly black parts and mostly black wheelset also add to the look. The MAXXIS MOBSTER tires are excellent too. Unlike most Dual slalom bikes this bike has 24 speeds intead of 8. This means you can use it for xc too. This also means you can ride instead of walk up the hill you want to go down.
Weaknesses:
A little heavy. (30lbs) The crankset is a little on the cheap side.

Bike Setup:
I plan to buy new cranks and possibly new: wheels, derailer, forks, and rear discs
Bottom Line:
A geat bike for beginners. A great base for upgrades. A good all-around bike!!!!! I'd buy it if you are instrested in DS.
