The inner pad adjuster SUCKS!! It is functional and you don't use it that much, but man is it a pain to adjust for initial setup-- it does work properly however.... They're still easy to set up despite this.

If anyone has complained about these brakes, I don't think they set them up properly--
Once the pad beds in-- they're really strong, and very close to the avids--
Endo's are easy-- Rear tire locks very easily-
NO V-Brakes can even touch these PERIOD! WHAT????

VERY Good brakes if you get a deal like I did.
I WOULD Recommend an upgrade to an 8" front rotor if you just have to have your front brake capable of flipping you over the bike at 20 mph- - But is that what good brakes are really supposed to do?? I really don't think they are.
The pad is a technological advancement in itself, as they designed the material for Harley Davidson, and it's a top secret compound..
Do you really need brakes?

Lots of people complain about the noisy squeal these brakes make and I wonder if they adjusted the brakes properly and "broke them in" before submitting their review. Mine made some nose (as most do initally) but that went away after a short time.
These babys can stop with the best of them. Long decents have minimal impact on braking power. and they have an awesome feel fo XC and urban assault.
I have laid the bike down several times on these brakes and have not yet destroyed them. I have however, broken a few brake cables near the clamping area.
These brakes are awesome and quite inexpensive. A great combo for any rider unless you like to cover your skills (or lack of) with the latest flashy product.

Bottom Line:
The brakes themselves work well but there are alot of problems that occur with them. i suggest buying the avid bb7s. there only a few bucks more and there rated one of the best if not the best mechanical disc brake.

-Excellent Stopping Power -Doesn't pump up on long, tight, steep, downhill trails like hydraulics -VERY resistant to fade! By the end of a 20 minute downhill through the woods (on a hardtail, 100mm travel!) they felt like just off the gondola. -Riding Urban, develops plenty of nose manual torque, trials like power -Haven't warped a rotor in eight months of riding ; Avid BB7 only lasted two.
Weaknesses:
=Prown to brake chirp/howling =Must adjust frequently for max power =Can't be used with QR skewer type axle due to safetly advisory from Hayes. (BONUS POSITIVE: So much braking torque, you could snap your axle!)

I ride urban, a bit of bike trials, and lift accessable downhills. Brakes get a major workout. I've used them 8 months, with no problems. I'm into my third set of brake pads, and the rotor is still within spec, with no warping. These brakes are more badazz than Mr. T.

Hard to say. They look better than V-Brakes.
Weaknesses:
these brakes are: loud unresponsive week and when they work they still are pathetic
Don't buy this brake system. They were included on my P2 so there wasn't much I could do. I have to say that I am very dissapointed in these brakes; franky, the V-Brakes on my dad's XC bike are A LOT better. Bottom Line: If you have a choice, do not get these brakes.

My 2003 P.2 came with this brake on the front and it worked great for probly 8-10 months. i'm 190 pounds so i have to clamp down pretty hard on my front brake when i do a stopee. one day i rolled up to do one and SNAP!...... something inside the caliper broke. This wasn't some little spring or something that broke it was a large metal part that snapped. I have never herd of anyone else having this problem so i would still purchase this product. I'm sure Hayes would have warrentied it but i just bought a new Hydrolic.....which is sweeet!
