    Favorite Trail:John Muir
    Duration Product Used:2 Years
    Price Paid: $300.00
    Purchased At:LBS
    Strengths:Stay true, stiff, look good.
Weaknesses:A little heavy, but that helps them hold up.
    Similar Products Used:Crossmax, 517, Mustang
Bike Setup:Homegrown Factory, XTR, yadda yadda
Bottom Line:Great rim for XC riding/training. Okay for racing - a little on the heavy side. But, they've held up very well. Don't show any signs of wear after two hard seasons. But, I don't do 6' drops either. Just hard climbing and riding. If you need a good training rim, these will do ya.

    Favorite Trail:Still looking...
    Duration Product Used:1 Year
    Purchased At:2nd hand
Strengths:Low rolling resistans (spinning goes on and on and on...), STD ball bearings, looks (X-Link Disc).
Weaknesses:Weak freewheel (inner body cracked). Lifetime of original bearings in nasty conditions. The rims stay true (and the rear rim on center line) only when the sprokets are left slightly loose -> flexy. The constant need of maintenance, special components are expensive and hard to find.
    Similar Products Used:CampaMirox/XT, 517/XTR/DTRevo, SyncrosXLR/XTR/DTRevo, Coda Expert, BontragerMustang/LX...
    Bike Setup:C-dale S-V700 ´00 with few modifications
Bottom Line:XC will do, but NOT for freeriders. Standard wheels are easier to maintenance and cheaper to repair after a crash. Great wheels, if you are not a jumper, dropper or crasher!

    Strengths:Light, fast acceleration, very strong
    Weaknesses:not tree-proof
    Similar Products Used:mavic 221 w/ XT
    Bike Setup:Giant XCX DS1
Bottom Line:I started off loving the acceleration and smooth rolling, but then I found out that these wheels suck at hitting trees. 1 4" poplar tree and I had to shell out $175 CDN and wait two weeks for Mavic to come through with a new rim. Replacement parts should definately be more accessible. These rims are tough, I routinely drop them from 6 feet or more to sometimes flat landings and they take the abuse beautifully. Rarely do they require truing.
    Very tough.

    Similar Products Used:

Bottom Line:Mavic does a pretty good job on this wheelset. I think they are being extremely generous in saying that this wheelset is 750/950. More like 850/1020... Back wheel fell out of true after a few rides. I never even pounded it, and I am a 165 lbs rider. That's what spoke wrenches are for.

Bottom Line:I weigh about 160 lbs, so I'm no clydesdale, yet the rear wheel refuses to stay true for a whole ride. The silver lining: a rubbing rear brake certainly makes for a good workout, I guess. Also, the skewers are pretty darn cheap and heavy-- I used my old LX skewers instead. Does anybody want to swap their new XT/517s for my nearly new Crosslinks? Didn't think so!

    Weaknesses:
    Must true after every ride!
    Similar Products Used:

    Bike Setup:
Ritchy frame with SID & XTR
Bottom Line:Like I said they look cool are light weight and cost little. However they do not stay true. I weigh 150 lbs. ride under 100 miles a week offrode and I keep the bike on the ground, so I should be able to ride the weakest wheel and not screw it up. Unfortunaly I have to always carry a spoke wrench for the rear wheel. The lateraly (strait) laced rear wheel always loosens at least a couple spokes about every other ride sometimes more often than that. Sometimes it seporates from the nipple! I notice very few others complained of this, maybe I got a bum set. My opinion is it is best to stick with a Shimano/Mavic set up because they are bomb proof and can be repaired anywhere. Happy Riding!!

I race the northeastern collegiate circuit and have had no problems over the course of several long races, just had to true them once after my first long training ride. Bottom Line:I dont know what the hell the deal is but if you look further down you will see i have commented on this before. After getting the freewheel hub repaired once by Mavic (Which took at least two months to turn around). I set on a journey, happy to have the crosslink back on the schwinn after riding on a 221 for the duration of the repair. But low and behold that worthless freewheel hub decides to fall apart in the middle of my delightful jaunt through the horse trails of fullerton. No more than 45 minutes back on the it and the same little collar inside snaps. Well let me tell you something, I'd rather go to my LBS everyday to true up the 221 than wait another two months for something that is going to fall apart again. Oh and try calling Mavic's customer service line, you'll get a chance to record your voice just like a professional singer. With one drawback, I dont think anyone listens and i highly doubt you'll ever get into the top 40. With that said I rescind my four flamin' chili's awarded to Mavic's efforts in my previous post and give them what they truly deserve. One flamin' chili for the rims.

Bottom Line:Great, inexpensive, lightweight wheelset. They can take a beating and still run very true. I really like the quiet freehub and so do those whom I ride with. I will admit that they aren't the lightest, for wheelsets available in this price range, I think they are tough to beat. And now that the prices are coming down, everyone should give them a look. Got mine for $300 but have seen them for $249. The skewers must go, or Mavic should redesign them. They are heavy and poorly made. They will eventually break on you. Despite the skewer issue, they still get a 5.

Bottom Line:I weigh 240lbs+, and tend to break things when I ride, so when I saw how flimsy these wheels looked, I decided to put slicks on them and just use them on the road. It didn't help. I have to true them after every ride. A 60 mile road ride is impossible w/o a spoke tool, unless I want to ride with the rear brake disconnected (I did that yesterday). Compared to my old wheels, I've been really easy on these wheels, but they just can't handle the stress. They might be OK if you're 150lbs and keep them close to the ground, but for me they are worthless.

I really dig the silent rear hub - we call it stealth mode on group rides - scare your friends :) I took a REALLY hard hit on the front wheel last week, on a rock, that instantly flatted out the tire (3 holes in the tube) and the wheel wasn't phased AT ALL - quite impressed so far. If these wheels were just a bit lighter so I can keep up with my friends' quest for the lightest bike. But for the price - it is a smart choice for those without the unlimited expense accounts.

Bottom Line:I bought my first pair for £200, lasted two weeks and some tea leaf stole them. I guess they just looked too good. I know Bontrager Race Lites and Crossmax are better, but hey when I bought my Crosslinks I still had some change left to buy a set of Raceface cranks. There does seem to be some discrepancy over the weights, however. When I bought a replacement set with the insurance money I weighed them and the rear wheel was just over 1000grams and the front was just over 800 (excluding skewers). Though my kitchen scales are not the most accurate in the world. That said, even if Mavic did exaggerate a little with the weights, they still feel light enough and accelerate well. Although some of the other reviewers have complained about the skewers I have not experienced any problems as yet. The skewers are also lighter than the Shimano ones which came with my bike and I managed to bend one of these!!!!!!!! I thought these wheels were so good that I bought another pair with my insurance money. REMEMBER ALWAYS HAVE INSURANCE.

I thought my wheels where out of true, but when they put them on the truing stand, they were perfect, even after about 350 miles of driving. (My brakes, on the other hand, were completely screwed up, making me think that the wheel was out of true.)These are great wheels, probably the best I've ever ridden. John Henry Bikes put on a loaner wheel for the race for me (many thanks to them) and sent the crosslink in for repairs. Its been 3 weeks now and I have to wait at another 2 weeks for Mavic to send a new rim to fix the wheel.
Why so long to wait for a rim? I'm guessing its one of 2 things.
    1) The wheel is so crappy that they can't keep up with fixing them.
    2) Poor management in that they believed there would be no problems with the rim and thus did not stock any spares in their warehouose.

As far as customer service goes i sent them in last week and should have the replacement this week, we'll see about that.

Bottom Line:If your looking for a light, trick looking, fairly cheap set of rims there is no need to look any further. Climbing is more efficent (using IRC Mythos XC 2.1) and running down a fire road is fast rolling and smooth. I ordered this wheelset from speedgoat for a super low price, check them out. One other thing, I got these rims sent 2nd day UPS and I also work there so spent the morning that they were supposed to come in searching the trucks. To my dismay they were at the bottom of a two story semi under a bunch of overweight boxes. The boxes that they were in were crushed and I could see one of the rims poking through. I rushed to the local bike shop after work to have them looked at and believe it or not they were still perfectly true. If they survived that trip then they out to prove bombproof. I'll post a follow up in a few months.
