Replacement parts should definately be more accessible. These rims are tough, I routinely drop them from 6 feet or more to sometimes flat landings and they take the abuse beautifully. Rarely do they require truing.

I weigh 150 lbs. ride under 100 miles a week offrode and I keep the bike on the ground, so I should be able to ride the weakest wheel and not screw it up. Unfortunaly I have to always carry a spoke wrench for the rear wheel. The lateraly (strait) laced rear wheel always loosens at least a couple spokes about every other ride sometimes more often than that. Sometimes it seporates from the nipple! I notice very few others complained of this, maybe I got a bum set. My opinion is it is best to stick with a Shimano/Mavic set up because they are bomb proof and can be repaired anywhere. After getting the freewheel hub repaired once by Mavic (Which took at least two months to turn around). I set on a journey, happy to have the crosslink back on the schwinn after riding on a 221 for the duration of the repair. But low and behold that worthless freewheel hub decides to fall apart in the middle of my delightful jaunt through the horse trails of fullerton. No more than 45 minutes back on the it and the same little collar inside snaps. Well let me tell you something, I'd rather go to my LBS everyday to true up the 221 than wait another two months for something that is going to fall apart again. Oh and try calling Mavic's customer service line, you'll get a chance to record your voice just like a professional singer. With one drawback, I dont think anyone listens and i highly doubt you'll ever get into the top 40. My front end is even more responsive than before. I really dig the silent rear hub - we call it stealth mode on group rides - scare your friends :) I took a REALLY hard hit on the front wheel last week, on a rock, that instantly flatted out the tire (3 holes in the tube) and the wheel wasn't phased AT ALL - quite impressed so far. If these wheels were just a bit lighter so I can keep up with my friends' quest for the lightest bike. I guess they just looked too good. I know Bontrager Race Lites and Crossmax are better, but hey when I bought my Crosslinks I still had some change left to buy a set of Raceface cranks. There does seem to be some discrepancy over the weights, however. When I bought a replacement set with the insurance money I weighed them and the rear wheel was just over 1000grams and the front was just over 800 (excluding skewers). Though my kitchen scales are not the most accurate in the world. That said, even if Mavic did exaggerate a little with the weights, they still feel light enough and accelerate well. Although some of the other reviewers have complained about the skewers I have not experienced any problems as yet. The skewers are also lighter than the Shimano ones which came with my bike and I managed to bend one of these!!!!!!!! I'm a Clydesdale on the trail, so I was truly worried about this wheels. Well, no truing required, rims are in perfect shape, and the spokes are still in tensions. I have hit a number of drop-offs, rocks, ruts, and other annoyances on the trail, and no problems whatsoever. I thought my wheels where out of true, but when they put them on the truing stand, they were perfect, even after about 350 miles of driving. (My brakes, on the other hand, were completely screwed up, making me think that the wheel was out of true.)These are great wheels, probably the best I've ever ridden. I've had no problems with the hubs, and they appear to be XT quality.Remember to add 30-75 bucks for better skewers.

Rock Shox SID XC | | Bottom Line: | At first I liked the light weight - until I bent the rear rim 2 days before a race (it was only about my 5th ride on the trails with the new bike). John Henry Bikes put on a loaner wheel for the race for me (many thanks to them) and sent the crosslink in for repairs. Its been 3 weeks now and I have to wait at another 2 weeks for Mavic to send a new rim to fix the wheel.
Why so long to wait for a rim? I'm guessing its one of 2 things.
1) The wheel is so crappy that they can't keep up with fixing them.
2) Poor management in that they believed there would be no problems with the rim and thus did not stock any spares in their warehouose.

Climbing is more efficent (using IRC Mythos XC 2.1) and running down a fire road is fast rolling and smooth. I ordered this wheelset from speedgoat for a super low price, check them out. One other thing, I got these rims sent 2nd day UPS and I also work there so spent the morning that they were supposed to come in searching the trucks. To my dismay they were at the bottom of a two story semi under a bunch of overweight boxes. The boxes that they were in were crushed and I could see one of the rims poking through. I rushed to the local bike shop after work to have them looked at and believe it or not they were still perfectly true. If they survived that trip then they out to prove bombproof.
