Submitted by mike a Weekend Warrior from Arlington VA
    Date Reviewed: November 23, 2003
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $300.00
    Purchased At:LBS
    Strengths:None
    Weaknesses:Flimsy rims, poor engineering.
Similar Products Used:Open Pro and other Mavic rims.
    Bike Setup:GT ZR1 Lotto, Ultegra
Bottom Line:Bought these wheels thinking I was upgrading from the Open Pro. Wrong! After just a few miles (50) the bladed spokes started turning sideways. There is nothing to prevent this from happening. No locks and spokes are round on the hub end and spin freely when loose. Very poor design. Rim was trashed after 100 miles. LBS replaced it free of charge and adding that many of these are coming back. Extreme poor design and worse quality control. Bike mechanic told me that you must used "locktite" compound to prevent spokes from coming loose!!

    Date Reviewed: March 3, 2003
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
    Strengths:never needed to be trued
    Weaknesses:creaking, hub failure
    Similar Products Used:ultegra/openpro
Bottom Line:about 2 years into using the wheel, it started to creak under hard pedaling. about 3 months ago, the rear hub seized. fortunately, the weather is better for the trails this time of year... on the other hand, the wheel is still as true as it was on the first ride.

    Date Reviewed: October 13, 2001
    Favorite Trail:Smooth asphalt
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Weaknesses:This is a followup to my post of a couple of years ago after my first season on these wheels. The rear rim is cracking around the spoke holes! (about 6 of them) They're out of warranty, so I'm replacing them with a set of Rolf Vector Comps. FWIW, the front wheel is still just fine.
Bottom Line:I'm lowering my rating due to this durability issue. Some people have said that I should expect to go through wheels every few years...this is the first set I've had to replace because they're breaking in 12 years of riding! (replaced rims before because they're dented or taco'd...that's it)

    Date Reviewed: April 11, 2000
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Strengths:Aerodynamics,durability.
    Weaknesses:Noise.
Similar Products Used:CXP30 with Ultegra hubs and bladed spokes.
    Bike Setup:Litespeed with Dura ace.
    Bottom Line:The spokes creak.
I've tried tightening them, lubing the spoke nipples, and lubing the spoke heads at the hub.I know it's the wheels because my bike doesn't creak with my 32 spoke Open pro's.The wheels work great, although they are not very good for rain rides/races because the rims fill up with water.
I'd give 'em 5 of those flaming things if they weren't so damn noisy.Anybody know how to fix them?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Date Reviewed: January 12, 2000
    Favorite Trail:Corte madera, Palo alto
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Strengths:Price, aero, looks
Weaknesses:Strange clicking noise when I brake, not that light.
Similar Products Used:Aero wheels that were stock on veloce.
    Bike Setup:Bianchi veloce
Bottom Line:I now get a strange clicking noise under heavy breaking, can't trace it to anything else on the set up, wondering if it has something to do with welds and large hollow space of aero box. Any suggestions about what to do email mbehrent@yahoo.com.

Submitted by Steve Niece a Racer from Hamilton, Ontario
    Date Reviewed: December 27, 1999
    Favorite Trail:
    Asphalt
    Duration Product Used:
    1 Year
    Strengths:
Light, relatively cheap, aero, true like crazy! Nice looking esp. with Axial Pro tires.
    Weaknesses:
I'm scared what's going to happen if I break a spoke since they are all radial laced (ex. drive side rear 3x) with heaps of tension. Also, replacing spokes might be a pain. Possibly a little stiff...but I also have them on a new Alu frame and my old bike was bonded CF.
    Similar Products Used:
Previous setup was Mavic CXP30 rims with Ultegra hubs...built by Racer Sportif in Toronto...wonderful job! No problems with them aside from SLIGHT loss of true within the first 500km or so.
    Bike Setup:
Devinci Millenium, Al frame w/ full 99 Ultegra 9 speed (aside from hubs)
Bottom Line:Only 4 chillies because of possible repair hassles.
    Overall Rating:4
