Bike Setup:I use these on a hard tail commuter to and from work and around the city.
Bottom Line:A bit costly, but if you buy them from maxxis.com you get a free water bottle and some stickers ;).

    Date Reviewed: July 24, 2008
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $35.00
    Purchased At:Chain reaction Cycle
Strengths:Durable and grippy, absorbs road buzz and bumps
Weaknesses:stuck to the road, rolls very slow and heavy.
Similar Products Used:Michelin XC Road and Schlwalbe City Jet
Bike Setup:Raleigh Mtrax with Deore LX used as road Commute Bike only with Panniers
Bottom Line:Using the Detonator Aramid tyre...Having used the Michelin front and Schwalbe Rear for several months, changed to the Maxxis F&R. First ride, picked up lots of grit and sand so very sticky and then every rise since then I have been passed by more bikes than ever before, Nothing else changed so I conclude it must be the tires are slightly slower and it takes more effort to keep a high pace going. Probably better on road over autumn/Winter where grip and durability are more important and on Hard Pack in Summer.

    Date Reviewed: July 22, 2008
    Favorite Trail:Majura Pines
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $35.00
    Purchased At:Onya Bike Warehouse,
    Strengths:Low rolling resistance on tarmac
    Reasonable wear characteristics
    Weaknesses:Poor puncture resistance
    poor traction off-road (d'uh!)
Similar Products Used:Generic slicks on roadie, cross-country tyres on mtb
Bike Setup:Avanti flat bar MTB, rigid steel frame circa early 1990s
Bottom Line:I was sold these tyres as 'hybrid' on/off-road tyres for my mtb when I was using it primarily for a 25Km round-trip commute.

They added a fair amount of speed on the tarmac compared to knobblies and never lost traction even in wet/slippery conditions.

I did have a few punctures initially, mostly due to broken glass on a bike path through the local uni campus. The tyres also have quite a few nicks and cuts from sharp pieces of gravel etc that haven't punctured the tubes.

They're done somewhere around 500Km and aren't showing excessive signs of wear other than this.

Detonators would be a good choice tyre for someone looking to use a 26" bike as a commuter or city bike, as long as there's not too much broken glass around. I certainly wouldn't take them off-road, even on a smooth gravel path as they just don't have enough traction on unsealed surfaces.
