Description:

Submitted by Martha C a Weekend Warrior from Newfoundland
Date Reviewed: May 21, 2008
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $449.00
Purchased At:TNT Bicycle
Strengths:None yet, haven't had a chance to use it yet!
Weaknesses:Seat and pedals.
Similar Products Used:Raleigh and Schwinn
Bike Setup:Had tires changed to 26x1.75 Nokian's at the shop. Glad I did after reading your reviews and hope these are better than the ones that came with the bike.
Bottom Line:At Norco's website they mention the Scrambler's usage of light/trail city (5 stars) and moderate/trail city (2 stars). This bike seems to suit me as I won't be doing anything extreme, mostly road going.

Favorite Trail:Hawkwood ravine, Canada Olympic park
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $580.00
Purchased At:Bow Cycle
Strengths:Fork, light good frame, reliable tires(their temporry)
Weaknesses:-the petals need to be replaced with the steel
-seat could be better
-handlebar
-grips wear fast
Similar Products Used:Norco Katmandu, Bushpiolit, Bigfoot, kompressor
Bike Setup:Shore freeride seat, specialized enduro grips, crome wellgo petals, Marzochi dirt jumper 160 mm trave fork
Kenda Nevegal tires, Del noche handlebar, Suntour rims, mortar seatpost...... basicly pimped except the frame and yea...
Bottom Line:A good beginner bike. in total, i spent around 2000 dollars pimpin' this thing and now it rides better than anything out there and i';m not kiddin'. Just try to make some improvements on it like i did and not mine is better than a: norco rampage, Manik, bigfoot, kompressor, Kona Scrap, shred, specialized rockhopper comp disc..... you probably get the pioint. if you don't wanna spend alot on pimpin an 'ok' bike, than i sudjest a SPECIALIZED P.2

Favorite Trail:non other that the road for this bike
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $489.00
Purchased At:bikeland
Strengths:descent 6061 aluminum frame and hays mx2 and mx4 discs.
Weaknesses:everything that i busted (spokes, rims, fork, derailer is snaped in half, pedals are a joke, and the rotars wear down realy quik).
Similar Products Used:sport check, walmart, and canadian tire bikes
Bike Setup:2006 marzocchi dirt jam pro fork (fits the fram well), real peddals lol, alyvio derailer (mutch better than tourney yet still very inexpensive), all the rest was stalk.
Bottom Line:i only baught the bike because i was so overwelmed by the fact that norco sold a new bike for this cheap. however it is not a very good bike for its value. through out the winter i put a bit of mony into the bike just to get it bake in running condition for my dad to use as a light xc bike. if you want to get your moneys worth buy a used bike from pinkbike.com i just baught a costom built freeride/dh bike with a value of over 2000 new. i baught it used for 450 and its in near perfect condition. taking my addvice will save you time and money.

Favorite Trail:Every Trail
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $460.00
Purchased At:Phoenix Sports
Strengths:Frame, pedals, and the front suspension.
Weaknesses:Rim and spokes. Also my feet already slipped on the pedals when it wasnt even wet.
Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:Factory
Bottom Line:I havent used the bike much but I like the lightness and the grippy handles. It is a bike for the average joe that likes to just go for a stroll. But if your a hard core biker that bikes almost every day I would suggest somthing worth a little more. I know I like mine but if I biked all the time I would go for something a little better.

Favorite Trail:river valley
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $421.00
Purchased At:Sports Shack
Strengths:Definintely the frame
Weaknesses:Rims
Similar Products Used:Rode Raleigh, Giant, other Norco's
Bike Setup:22" frame, replaced wheels, crankwheels, put on last year's mechanical disc up front.
Bottom Line:I weigh 221. I am 61/2 feet tall. I had put over a thousand kliks on before changing worn, bendable, low-end parts. For 420 bucks, this is a sturdy, upgradeable frame: -- having spent @ 700.00 on original bike AND upgrades, I now have a tough hardtail that I have raced and commuted upon for two seasons and really couldn't be happier with my decision. I couldn't find a "finished" bike for the money I've spent.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $300.00
Purchased At:Sportwheels
Strengths:Solid frame. Best derailleurs in price bracket. Comfortable saddle.
Weaknesses:Rims.
Similar Products Used:Haro V1, Specialized hardrock.
Bike Setup:factory
Bottom Line:For less than $400 CAD, there was little else out there with components as good. Frame is real solid. At 6'3" 245lbs, the 22" frame didn't wooze to and fro like others i tried. That leads me to the rims...pits ... constantly bent. Definitely not a pro quality bike, but price is about the same as the tax of a high end bike. Overall, Great value, but rims need to be upgraded.
Pros and competition guys stay away ... weekend fitness gurus lookin for some mud and trail without drops and jumps, its a great value.

Strengths:Frame is light. grips aren`t bad.
Weaknesses:Brakes don`t stop great. Fork is extreamely stiff and has little travel. Tires do not have great grip and wear fast.
Similar Products Used:Cheap Wall-Mart bikes.
Bike Setup:15' scrambler frame, alex x2100 rims, shimano deore rear derailer, acera dront, djIII fork, rapid fire shifters, free agent pedals, raceface evolve dh cranks, truvativ gigapipe bb, avid bb7 disk brakes.

Favorite Trail:The Yellow Brick Road
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $567.00
Purchased At:Spoke O' Motion
Strengths:Ummm....can't think of any. It has wheels which can turn and allow for some minimal rolling.
Weaknesses:Brakes, frame, front fork, back fork, handle bars, gears, gear shifters, pedals, front and back derailers, tires, rims and spokes. Pretty much everything about this a bike is a weakness.
Similar Products Used:Any bikes purchased at Canadian Tire, Sears, The Bay or Wal Mart. Some similar barnds are CCM and Super Cycle.
