Weekend Warrior Summary: A bit suprised by this trail, especially the lower contour one as its quite level with some rocks here and there, but you could almost ride the whole way without stopping!! Did the contour run a few times and the ridgeline bit once... (quite a bit of pushing and then straight back down.... steep and a bit sketchy... make sure u put your seat down.
Note: Most of the contour trail is shaded which is good if u want to escape some sun :-). Recommended Route: Came from Central, rode all the way following the tram to Shakiewan, then up Chai Wan Rd, turn right into Tai Tam Rd... a bit of a climb, then left into Shek O Rd.
(would like to go another way here (via Tai Tam Reservoir Rd ) but there was no cycling signs there even though its bitumen! Other recommended trails in the same area: None.... on HK Island..... sometimes ride to the Peak, but all road

, from HK Summary: Terrific destination for some frequently varied terrain, though riding along the upper ridgeline is really only an option for more experienced cyclists. Fantastic views from the top make the effort of carrying a bike up there worthwhile, and the outlook from the lower path is pretty fine too. The upper and lower trails are thankfully concrete-free except on the short path from the ridgeline back down to the main trail (at the Shek O end), which has recently been fixed up with some stairs but can still be ridden down. The Dragon's Back is a pretty quiet ride and hikers are few during early weekend mornings, but even then it's not a good idea to hurtle through blind bends on the sometime narrow trail. A possible downside could be the distance getting to the Dragon's Back. It can be quite tiring to ride there - the trailhead is reached by climbing roads from Shau Kei Wan in the North or Tai Tam in the South - which might put people off frequenting the trail. Pity, because on a clear day the riding and scenery at AFCD's only HK Island cycling location is well worth experiencing! Recommended Route: If it's not wet and foggy, I start along the lower path to the signpost, carry the bike up to the ridge, ride along the top before a rest overlooking Shek O and then return along the main trail. Other recommended trails in the same area: None, unfortunately.
