I lived at the Grand Canyon for about 6 years and I did the Abyss Loop allmost every day the last 2 years that I was there. I think it is a great ride for the area because it has some of the only single track. Recommended Route:
This route involves going down sown a single track off of Mohave street, up a forest road to the abyss and back down the West Rim Drive. Check out the website I am making about grand canyon riding it has a map with all the routes that I have done. Also detailed directions for the Abyss Loop.
