Trumbull River Valley

The main trail you will find yourself on is a Rail Trail used by hikers, dogs, bikers, etc...so be careful and obey the rules so we can use it in the future. To get to the best trails you will need to go to the other side of the river (there are two bridges, one 1.5 miles from the trailhead, the other .25 miles from the end). From this side you'll just have to explore around. There are many great trails tucked away back here so take you time and explore or ask for directions. Most of the trails here are tight singletrack. There are a few small hills but nothing of real significance. Old Mine Park, Beaches Park, and Twin Brooks Park are within a few miles of this area and offer some great singletrack. Ask around for directions, these are harder to find.
From 95 north and south:
Take exit 27 for RT 15/Trumbull/RT 8. Stay in the left lanes until the split. After the highway splits look for the Merritt Parkway south/127 exit. (It will be after you see the large movie theater on the right) Take this exit and when the exit forks stay right. You will come to a traffic light where you will want to turn left. Go through 3 lights. At the fourth you will be at a large intersection. Go straight up the hill about 100 yards and turn right at Tait Road (there is an old white building on the right just before the road). Park anywhere along this road, the trailhead is a few hundred feet down the road on the left.
From the Merritt Parkway (rt. 15) North:
Get off exit 48 (the mall exit). Turn left at the traffic light. You will cross the bridge and go through another light. At the next light take a right. This road will end after a few miles. Turn right at the stop sign. Near the bottom of the hill there will be a road (Tait Road) off the the left. Turn here (old white builing is next to it), the trail head is up ahead on the left.
From the Merritt Parkway (rt. 15) South:
You will need to get off exit 50. Take a right at the end of the ramp. Follow this road through 4 lights. At the 5th there will be a large intersection. Go straight and up the hill. About 100 yards up turn right on Tait Road. (look for the old white building, the turn is there) The trail head is ahead on the left.
Summary: Very fun! I'm a XC person, and this trail wasn't too bad. In fact, it's very, very similar to Daniel's Road in Saratoga Springs by Skidmore College. Trumbull is pretty rocky. You'll find some pretty good five foot drops around all over. *bring the camera* If you don't know where you're going, plan for some extra time to get out of there while there's light out.

Summary: Great trail - I have heard the hype for this place and finally decided to give it a shot - the *perfect place to test out my new 7" ride. Pretty good XC stuff, but because of river proximity a lot of the singletrack is rooty and rocky. Which is cool, but beginners may find this a bit frustrating. Some good climbs, nothing too lung-busting but you leave feeling you had a good workout. However the real draw for this place is the freeride-ability. Some scary chutes, nice natural drops, with and without trannys, and ultratechnical descents make this place a blast. There is an area referred to by local as the slickrock gardens, which had some technical aspects to it and was quite fun. Overall plan a day trip here - there are many trails to ride with lots of cool areas to hang out, but leave yourself a window to find your way out before it gets dark if you are unfamiliar.
Recommended Route: Good luck - easy to get spun in here but the locals will help you out if asked nicely. Park at the commuter lot off of 25 and ride left to the trailhead.

Summary: Ranging from flat road the bending twisting DH. For the expert rider there are also some awesome drops ranging from 2-6 feet and 3 giant vertical rollers 5,10,and 15 feet. The 15 footers name is No *#&$&** WaY. Enjoy
Recommended Route: Start at the end of the trail were the yellow gate is. Ride down the road till you see a trail to your right (.25miles), follow it across the stream. Follow thw trail till your reach the pined area with lots of drops you will know when your there. Explore!
Other recommended trails in the same area: The G-Spot on Great Quarter Road in Newtown CT (enterence on right .5 miles down)A very small but very extreme place the ride.

Summary: A rather boring trail. No climbing to speak of, which means no downhill stretches. Also no markings anywhere, so you need to find a chute from the railroad trail, head to the creek and hope for the best.

Summary: AWESOME! After hearing about this place for awhile, I finally stopped and gave it a go on my way home from PA. Although the area is small, there are some great trails, and some cool "freeride" things to do. Mostly drops and long, steeeeeep roll-ins. No NS bridges that I could find. But I would say that there are drops and roll-ins for beginners up to moderately 'expert' freeriders (whatever that means) [ie., I might think Wade Simmons would be impressed with it, but wouldnt have any problem riding it]. Unbelieveably pretty, too. Nice rocky ledges in pine forest, rolling singletrack through deciduous forests... awesome.
Recommended Route: Correction to directions is correct! Great directions (at least from Merritt northbound), although instead of parking on Tait road, you may as well take a left at the light at the bottom of the hill (instead of taking a left onto Tait), taking another left near the top (towards 25), and parking in the commuter lot everyone is talking about. That way you start on the correct side of the river, and jump right into the singletrack.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Seems to me that this is the same area as the posts for "Pequannock River Valley"
