Summary:
I ride this 2-3 times a week. It has everything. Climbs for cardio, descents, and technical trails, rock gardens. Saw a bear last Monday!! BIG!! I can ride a 9.25 mile loop in about 1.5 hours with a couple breaks. There are a lot of different cuts through the woods and resevoir to keep it different. If you want a harder ride, ride counter clockwise. The hills are bigger and longer periods of climbing.

Recommended Route:
Easier to do a clockwise loop around the property. Hook up with some other riders and follow them to learn the loops and trails. It's how I learned. Meet some new people.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
South Mountain (Mt Southington), Burlington, Nepaug, Morris, Middlesex,Tyler Mill(Wallingford)

Summary:
This is a great place to ride it has a wide veriety of things you can do from technical single tracks to down hills it has alot of things to ride including drops 2-9 feet, rocks and roots and many log piles. this trail is also well mantained.

Recommended Route:
you go past the resivor to where you see a central wheel bike shop and after that shop you turn right and go up a hill and when you get to the top you will be on this little private road you can park there and go right up a hill there will be a fence next to you on your right once you see a opening at the top of the hill go in there. dont go right down the hill go left and keep on going throu a grassy feild and once you get out of there you keep going right up the hill, you will see a trail to your right dont take it keep going up the hill and you will get to a place where you can go right or left go right you will see arrows in the path once you have gotton past there you will see a trail on you left and take that you will go through a little grassy area then there will be a steep up hill or you can go left they will take you to the same place go down the hill and go let up a hill and there is the good stuff.

Summary:
My review of this trail system is based on its potential not on my experience at the MDC Reservoir. When I was there it was a muddy mess. With that said, the singletrack along the powerlines was a blast to ride and was not muddy. It made the trip worth it. The fireroads were all muddy to the point of impassability, but the park could be alot of fun when its dry.

Recommended Route:
From the main parking lot, go right on the main paved trail until you can take your second right at the path marked as bike trails. Kepp going up and up and up until you reach the power lines. Find the trail running along the powerlines and you will not be disappointed.

Summary:
Basically like most CT. trails this place offers something for everyone. The more you adventure the more you appreciate, the more you return and have fun. I remember in '96 when it was legal to hit jumps off of the grassy areas near the parking lot, but no longer a good idea. Some new trails are open and still more to be found. See you there!

Recommended Route:
WOODS! I usually park off Rte. 44 at the dirt lot and hit the trails from there. Easiest to park off Rte. 4 in the Res. and just follow the signs till you're haveing fun.

Penwood and Metacomit
