Comalara Park Trails
7 reviews
 2.86 of 5

The trails that are best to ride are labeled #5. These are all singletrack of different skill levels. There is some ravines with tricky wooden bridge crossings and climbs. The newly developed singletrack is very tight, technical, and many challenges such as log jumps, ravines with immediate inclines, and switchbacks. It's great riding.

Trail Directions
Turn off of I-39 on Lake Bloomington Road and turn to go to Evergreen Lake/Comalara Park. Follow this road till you see the entrance sign for Comalara Park. Go to Ranger's Station and get a map for the bike trails. Go back to the main road you were on and follow it around pass the dam and look for a big graveled parking area. The trail goes two directions and both ways have great trails. The map shows the main trails but many challenging and fun singletrack trails have been developed that start off of the main trails. Keep your open to the side and you will see them.

Summary:
the CORBA people have been doing a great job keeping this place up and going. There is needs for some re-routes of some problem areas but overall it is pretty good. Not much elevation change here but good evough to get your heart going. To make it more of challenge just ride faster, but please be aware that this is a heavy hiking trail too so watch your corners. When they get the other side of the dam done this trail will be much more fun and will be more worth the trip from other cities in the area.

Recommended Route:
Just ride in from the trail parking off of the road by the boat docks. When you get to the floating bridge ride it if you dare, it is really tricky when the water is low, the guide stakes stick up about 3 feet then. When you get to the other side take a right and follow the path to your first left take that and you are on the funner stuff. We are helping the locals (CORBA) get some new trails build on the North side of the dam this year so look for those across the road when you get to the dam. That side will have a section with a really nice climb/downhill. It is more roling over there too so it will be a change from the flatter rest of the trail.

Geez just look at the other reviews for the state. Go ride all of them, Pekin/Peoria if you like it harder technical.....Jim Edgar Panther Creek/Kickapoo State Park if you like it fast and mellow.

Summary:
not too shabby, like others said, trail 5 is where it s at but someone bee working on 6. i find the best ride is to enter 5 and and go to the X where 5&6 cross. take the 6 entrance at the X and ride it around till it comes back to 5 (near the X) and then do 5. nothing here thatll kill you, some ups and downs, a few log obstacles and some switchbacks that take a shoulder off if youre not carefull. if you want a nice calm ride with family or friends come here. trails are faily well maintained and overall very nice.

Recommended Route:
head west off I39/51 at the hudson exit. when you reach a T in the road turn right (north) and head into the park. just after the 25mph sign pull into the parking area on the right. enter the trail across the street.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
if you want a more terrifying ride, head over to dirksen park in pekin.

Ridden Trail:
Once a week

Summary:
Since this trail is really close to home i ride it at least once or twice a week. Weather permitting. It is a nice trail with great wilderness all around you. If ur quiet you can get really close to the deer. This trail is mainly for walkin or bikin. No horse clodden trails like you get at Jubilee. NEWAYS I participate in the races put on my illinois cycle they are really fun. If ur gonna ride this trail i would suggest having at least front suspension. There are some really bumpy parts in the grassy areas. If you ride this trail i dont think you will be dissapointed.

Recommended Route:
i say just follow the trail around the lake there are different levels of difficultly. ! JUST BE SURE TO WATCH OUT FOR THE FLOATING BRIDGE! if i were you i would not try to take that one you could lose ur manlyhood. or womanlyhood.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
pekin. and jubilee

Summary:
This trail is really designed for beginners. It is a great place to take people just beginning but if you want a real fun challenging ride go to Pekin. It is worth the drive and it will make a man/woman out of you or kill you.

Recommended Route:
see above

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Pekin
