All trails in the park are open to bikes!!! Talk to a ranger if you find one; they are about the friendliest guys you'll ever meet. Some are also horse trails, so those are a little eroded. We only rode about a quarter or a third of the available trails, so this is only for some of the trails in the park; what we found was mostly wide doubletrack with a dirt path worn in the middle. Not too twisty, but lots of rocks in the path. Climbs weren't too challenging, but it was kind of like a little rollercoaster. Not much traffic, but well-maintained. Perfect starter course for my girlfriend.
Go south 7 or 8 miles out of Pinckneyville on Illinois Route 127; there is a road that is called Illinois 152 to the east; take this WEST (right turn off 127) for a couple miles. There will be a PYRAMID STATE PARK ENTRANCE 500 FEET sign, wooden, on your right. Turn in there. The park office is right there, and there are trail maps inside there or at a little trail info sign right near it.
Summary: I took a day off from work to ride these trails and drove two hours to get there, but upon arrival, I saw a sign stating that all trails are closed to bikes and horses from October 31 thru April 30. These exact days are not precise, but are very close. As I was there on the day after shotgun deer season, I thought I'd be safe, but I was disappointed. I'll definitely go again but not during ANY hunting season, since that is huge in this park. I hope this helps someone else avoid the same disappointment that I encountered.
Recommended Route: I couldn't ride due to the trails being closed for the season.

Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Summary: This park is very underused--my girlfriend and I went there and camped Labor Day weekend, and there were probably 10 sites out of 80 being used. We didn't go on every inch of trail -- probably only hit a fourth of what was out there. But we had a really good time. It was a great course to start her out on: enough ups and downs and rocks and roots to entertain her, but nothing a beginner couldn't ride. Of course, other parts of the trail that we didn't have time for may have some more fun stuff that we just didn't find. The park rangers are very friendly and helpful; talk to them if you get a chance. They keep the grass parts of the trails mowed well, and there was nowhere in the park that seemed out of hand. This park is very underused, and what better way to use it than to ride?!? 2 stars for lack of challenge; 5 stars for the rustic and undeveloped surroundings (you won't find any lodge or swimming pool here!) and for the park staff.
Recommended Route: Anywhere in the park is open to bikes (please use responsibly!). The site manager recommended to us the 10-mile trail which follows the perimeter of the park most of the way around.
Other recommended trails in the same area: Don't know--I'm from central Illinois and don't get down that direction too much.
