This is probably one of the biggest area's around to bike. Unfortanetly, this is mostly a ATV/motorcycle area so caution is needed when riding here. I generally go early (8-9 am) on the weekends and can usually get a couple of hours before the motorcycle guys take over. It also helps if it isn't that nice out (cold, overcast or rainy). If it is very crowded, the east side (right hand side when you drive in) generally doesn't have many bikers. This place has it all- drop-ins, steep climbs and descents as well as good cross-country. The best part- it is all single-track! Terrain varies from packed dirt to rockey. This is the best place I have ridden in Kansas, mostly because it has the most extreme terrain. Both sides of the ORV area are great. Trails spider out at every turn so there are limitless combinations to take. Enjoy!
From I-70 take Milford Lake Rd. north to K-244/3400 Rd. and turn left (west). Drive to Union Rd and turn right. Drive north on Union past Curtis Creek until you see a sign pointing to the right (east) and turn right after the sign. Follow the gravel road to its end. There are two major areas- one on the east side and one on the west side of the parking lot.
Summary: I work the the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers out at Milford Lake and we are making some changes to the School Creek ORV Area and we are trying to get the word out as much as possible.
As of July 5th, 2005, there will be no more camping in the ORV area. The park will officially become a day use park with hours of operation from 8am to 10pm. Second, a helmet law will be required for all ages of riders. Third, alcohol will not be prohibited in park. Hopefully, taking these actions will reduce the number of accidents, injuries and fatalities that have substantially risen over the years. We want to continue providing a safe place to enjoy the outdoors while increasing public safety, reducing accidents, and avoid closing the area. These new rules are in cooperation with local riders, Geary County EMS, Geary County Sheriff's Dept., and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
Over the next several months, the Corps of Engineers will be developing a management plan for the School Creek ORV area. If anyone is interested in becoming a member of the School Creek ORV Stakeholders group, please contact the Corps of Engineers.

Summary: awsome place to ride. Some huge insane hill climbs. hill jumps. There is hill called big red it is probally 70 feet tall, as you climb about 10 feet form the top you leave the ground and have to clear to the top. It varies in terrain it has sand, mud, and hard pack dirt.There are quite a few step up's and other big jumps it is mostley 80 acre's of trails, hills and jumps.
Recommended Route: travel few different ways up to you

Summary: Cold Feb mornings are a great time to have this place just to yourself with the eagles. the single track along the lakeshore and on the south end is the most fun

Summary: If your a freestyler looking for some natural terrain jumps that are extremely tricky, School Creek has endless possibilities. I have been riding here on my tricked out CR250 Honda and it does some interesting things on the big cliff faces and other cool natural terrain jumps. Definately the place to go if you are looking to show off some skills. This place is really anyones type of area to ride with many differant styles of riding techniques.
Recommended Route: Take I70 west, past J.C., to the Chapman exit. (It's the one after the Milford Lk Rd exit. Go right at the end of the exit ramp. Drive until you can't go forward anymore (about 20 miles) and take a right at that stop sign. Keep driving until you see the signs for School Creek ORV Park. It's easier to get to than it sounds.
Other recommended trails in the same area: 2 miles west and 1 1/2 miles south of the School Creek exit to the highway is my freestyle compound with some huge jumps, steel ramps, and natural terrain stuff. It has been said by many people that this is one of the best places to go to jump and do tricks arround.

Summary: This place has somewhat of a fun factor because you can explore for hours and not ride the same place once or try to find your way back to the parking lot. However, this place offers no real technical riding for bikes unless you can ride up 30 ft dirt walls. I rode this place looking for jumps or something actually interesting and found only singletrack, no jumps or real drop-offs. This place is good for a long riding workout. Your riding skills will not be tested here. If it wasn't for the motorized riders I'd say bring the family along for a spin!
Recommended Route: Same as other directions. When you get lost, go to the info center, these people are nice and will show you how to really get there.
