mountain fire'logging roads, sled dog/snowmobile trails. some highly technical, some non-technical.
Summary: Great place to ride in the Whites. Be sure you are self sufficient, you won't be anywhere near civilization, even at your car. The hiking maps of the area are a great help in putting together a ride. There are some great out-and-backs as well as some loops to put together. Some of the hiking trails make for super technical riding, with a little hike-a-bike as well. Bring a lot of water! If bikers took care of some of these trails, it would be a six tire rating! But, alas, this has not yet happened. Wish I could give it 4 1/2 tires, but that is not allowed here..so the four tire rating must do for now!
Recommended Route: There are many to choose from. Just be sure to stay out of the Snadwich Wilderness Area...this (as are all designated wilderness areas) off limits for bikes. From Sanwich Notch Road, heasd out the Guinea Pond trail for 4 miles, and hook up with the Flat Mountain Pond Trail. 8+ miles to the pond, 8+ miles back to the car. On the way back out there are some alternative routes that you can explore down to Bennett Street and hook around. Very remote ride, makes for a great adventure. Other ride exist, check out the local maps and just explore!
Other recommended trails in the same area: Bear Notch Road, Waterville Valley, Hubbard Experimental Forest, All over the Whites!

Summary: DIRECTIONS::: (Above directions were horrid!!, we tried for over an hour to find this place with 1/2 tank of gas and stopped 3 times for directions - nearly running out of gas on the way home). OK here's our version of them: take 93 to 25E from 25E take a left onto 113, from 113 take a Right onto 113A East, pass both the Wayside Farm and the Sandwich Animal farm on your right (Keep your eyes open from here on), then take a Left onto Whiteface Interval Rd, then take a Left onto Bennett St. (crappy little road) - road will go over a bridge about 1 mile from the entrance and go another mile to a small parking area. This is an AMC trailhead, so there may be better AMC trail directions floating around. The trail does go next to a rather large river, if you are on this trail it's probably a bit to technical. Try to stay off this trail unless you like to hike both your bike and yourself over some rocks that get to be about 4 ft. high. and river crossings (there was a lot of rain before we went) with no real rideable path.
Some of the other trails were a bit boring, being flat and having a couple of fallen trees as obstacles. The other trails (sorry for no names) were a bit more technical with more rocks. One section was very hilly with waterbars - a nice ride on the way down. We were pleased with some of the woody sections, though these trails were lacking overall. I'd suggest to save your time and find Bear Brook Park - that's a much better investment of your time.
Recommended Route: Not recommended as MTB trail, more of a hiking by the river trail. Very technical to those who attempt, beginners beware.
Other recommended trails in the same area: GOTO Bear Brook (NH)

Summary: Ride 8 miles on mostly doubletrack to Flat Mountain Pond. This starts as tame slightly uphill riding. After a few miles head to Flat Mtn. Pond. The terrain becomes increasingly difficult and finishes with a mile of boulder strewn eroded logging road and a beaver dam crossing. The pond at the end will put you in a very remote wildlife area where the AMC has a shelter. You cannot ride further as it is posted wilderness area. This is an epic ride that will beat on you. Lots of moose activity. I did it solo but would recommend company due to the straight out remoteness and potential for being miles from any help. I highly recommend this ride for anyone who wants to be "out there" and can ride through tough rocky sections with eroded waterbars etc. Lots of endo potential due to small sticks on the trail after 5 miles or so. GET A MAP OF THE TRAILS!!!
Recommended Route: Drive up the road and park at the Sandwich Mtn. trailhead

Summary: Don't bother...I would take my chick on this trail...if that gives any idea how weak it is.
