Mountain Bike Ohio covered this trail in their 1st and 2nd editions. It is a great ride for somebody stuck in Cleveland. Trail makes great use of a limited real estate. Log jumps, root jumps, rut jumps, hairpins galore. Most of it is pretty easy but there are some parts that require you to stay alert. Definitely scenic. Don't fall off the cliff to the right of the trail midway through because it would probably hurt. The best part is the descent into the river via the River Loop which includes a couple of short, rooty v-drops, more roots, and a not-so-nice switchback. Ride back up is a little tough, but worth it. Definitely not as technical as the Dump or the Knob, but it's legal and the trail's got a nice rhythm to it. More XC than anything else, but still a good place to ride every now and then.
From Cleveland, take I-90 East out of town, past 44, past Vrooman road, to 528. There's a watertower with horses around it and a McDonald's. Make a right. Turn left at the next road - there's a gas station at the corner. Go down the road about a mile. You will pass Bates Road. Trail comes up about a half mile after that across the street from a gas well. Do not go on trails on the gas well property. The better stuff's across the street.
Summary: Fast single track, short climes, short DHs nothing steep at all. 3 log rides, well 1 real one, a few small bridges about 4 I think. CAMBA site says 3 miles, more like 2. Not worth the dive from the west side of Cleveland. But then again there are no legal trails on the west side of Cleveland. If you don’t live near by, don’t waist you time if you’re looking for something more challenging go south a bit to WEST BRANCH state park, but I guess it’s not be for the beginner or some that live near by.
Recommended Route: There is only one way you can go...
Other recommended trails in the same area: Nope.

Summary: The re-routes have set in nicely and have eliminated most, but not all, of the wet spots and also made the trail 'flow' better. At only 2 miles, the next stage will be to completely eliminate the last few wet spots and add a bit of distance, although we'll be limited by the acerage. The re-opening of the river loop will be a key, but will require a lot of work to make the section susstainable.
Recommended Route: I always ride the loop clockwise (so you get to ride down the little steep hill).
Other recommended trails in the same area: No legal ones within 40 miles. Sigh.

Summary: Jan from Columbus: Sorry you made the trip to Atchinson and found it a waste of time. Again to reiterate, Atchinson belongs to Lake Metroparks and unfortunately we do need to abide by their rules. CAMBA has been working with the park to do the best we can do with the limited space and if you have been out there since Sept. 21 you will notice a few re-routes that have been completed and also a few new sections-to-be. There will be an official work day out there on Nov. 30 but if you want to go out anytime and work the trails then please do so but stay in our flagged areas or send me an e-mail and I'll be happy to meet you out there or at least fill you in on what to do.

Summary: this trail was a waste of my time. if your driving more than 10 minutes to get there dont even bother. i drove from the west cleveland and it was a major disapointment. this trail shows how desperate northern ohio is for mountain biking.
Other recommended trails in the same area: you need to start at woosted and go south to get good biking in ohio.
