Weekend Warrior Summary: Rode the Orange trail (the Northwest one) and it was very nicely marked (actually exceptionally marked). But the map sucked bad. They told me the trail was 7.1 miles and I got to 4.75 and felt like I was very far from the end. I called the Trail Head and they couldn't help me at all even though I was standing in front of the 4.75 mile marker.
Anyway, the trail is great, just be ready to get off your bike unless you are a rock expert! Both uphills and down, some very rocky ascents that I'm not sure anyone buy real experts could make. But it was in a very cool place.
They told me this trail was the most difficult of all the 4 trails, but the most scenic.

Cross Country Rider Summary: This is a really fun trail system. There are 4 different trailheads (two on the east side of the lake, two on the west). These trails are pretty smooth for the most part, although there are some rocky climbs and descents. The climbs are the swooping kind that go along the sides of small ravines, so they are quite exhilarating, but there's not a whole lot of prolonged climbing. This trail can be challenging in parts, but mostly it is just fun to explore along the banks of senic lake Mcmurty. This trail system with 4 decently long loops is a true gem. I envy the Stillwater riders because of the variety and coolness of their trail system. If you live anywhere near this thing you should make a trek out here, you won't be sorry. Recommended Route: The east side trails are smoother and more well worn/traveled, while the west side trails give a more isolated and exploratory feeling. I rode the SouthEast and the NorthWest trails. They had a simmilar feel to me, although I preferred the Northwest trail because it felt a lot remote and quiet. The trails are well marked. I didn't see any other riders while I was on the west trail (on a sunday morning). The lake is cool and clean feeling if you don't mind getting muddy feet, there are plenty of isolated little spots to jump in on the west side. The only downside with the west is that you will be riding through quite a bit more tall grass that looks like tick and chigger haven, however I put 8 miles on my odo without getting any bites (but I'd watch out in early summer). Other recommended trails in the same area: I'm not from the area, Turkey Mountain is ok. I like Mcmurty better though.

Weekend Warrior Summary: I Only Rode the NE Trial 6.2 miles long really nice scenery felt as though i was some where else far away. Fairly bumpy, steep declines and inclines. Note: I am a begginer so my perception may be different from others you really have to go and find out for yourself. It is worth it if your on I-35 and passing by in the area. It is 5 dollars to ride but it is worth it. Like always try to carpool. This was my first real trail and it was nice but very challenging. Recommended Route: Highway 51 off i-35 turn on sign for the lake then head straight and other signs will lead you there. If coming through the north i reccomend you save 30 min and study and backroads map. Other recommended trails in the same area: none

Weekend Warrior Summary: Awesome trail on the SW side, the trail just W of the ranger station, some good technical stuff with some excellent drop-in due to erosion, lots of tree roots and mostly single track stuff, lots of short steep uphills with big smooth rocks, can be a little tricky coming out of some of the creek beds, get wet down in the bottom then you gotta pedal up in a granny gear up big smooth rocks, can cause some traction issues

Weekend Warrior Summary: About 30 miles of trails total; 4 loops @ 7 miles each. Great mostly smooth single track, with some technical sections. You can really fly on most of it. there are some short technical, rooted climbs and also some slick sandstone outcrops to navigate. If you looking for long climbs or constant technicality, this isn't your place, but if you want a challenge, ride 1+ loops as fast as you can. I time myself almost every time out. Recommended Route: I like the east side. the SE trail is most used, well kept, and extremely fast. The NE trail is the most technical. The SW and NW trails are a little different, but good as well.
To East side: take 177 N. from Stillwater to Lake McMurtry Rd. just before the turnpike. Take it west until your in the park. Trailheads well marked.
To West Site: Take HWY 51 West from Stillwater until you see signs for McMurtry on Camp Redlands Road. Take North until T. Take left (west), and follow signs to park. Trailheads across road from ranger station.
