Herb Parsons St ate lake
18 reviews

The trail starts on the leeve of the lake on the right side of the park looking at the lake. It is a all single track lap very tight in places, very techniclal for Memphis. The trail will stay pretty muddy after a good rain. There is a word of caution to stay on the trail and not wander off onto the archery range for obvious reasons. The trail is easy to follow in most places, you will leave the woods one time back onto the blacktop take a left here go 40 or 50 yds and reenter the woods. Lots of fun and lots of posion ivy so enjoy

Summary:
Overall, a good trail to ride. We rode the trail for about six miles. The trail has a lot of poison ivy and roots, and a lot of moderate inclines and twists. About a 20 minute ride from the Memphis City Limit. The trail is cut back in most places, although i still got poison ivy, and the roots are marked with yellow paint in the beginning. If you like a bunch of curves, you'll like this dirt trail.

Recommended Route:
We rode counter-clockwise from the parking lot, but do not have a preference.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Wolf River Trails, Germantown Greenbelt

Summary:
we are ODD out of okc and we need a ride going through the memphis area. the three of us hit this trail and rode it both ways, teh trail.I think one would get fairly fast after a couple of laps and getting the rythem of the place. The place is nice and clean and nice views of the lake- you just float around on a carpet of pine needles about thirteen miles if ridden both directions. A local bike store worked said this is his hfav in the m-town area.
ride on.

Summary:
I'm writing from a bike beginners point of view, to beginners. I haven't ridden a bike in 20+ years and I only have about 25 miles on my Rockhopper so far and 18 are from Herb Parsons.

I love this trail personally due to the length, scenery, and the level of difficulty. It has many mild challenges but also offers several challenging obstacles (hills, ravines, a couple large downed trees) which will take me several more trips before being succesful at beating.

It's very fun and I plan to keep going back very often. My first time there I had to take several breaks. The following weekend I went back and took only one break at 2 miles, then did a second lap with no breaks but it did take me 1.5 hours (3 total). I think in a few more weeks I can cut it down to an hour without too much trouble.

Other beginners may be interested in the blue and red trail at Lakeland.

Recommended Route:
I like going counter-clockwise (leave right from the parking lot across the levee). Also, look for the fork to the right very soon after the beginning of the trail to add interest and a ravine.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Lakeland is good although small. The blue trail and red trails are easiest, the yellow is difficult for me a beginner.

I rode the white trail (i think) at Wolf River and didn't care for it too much, it was too flat and not twisty enough for me.
