Ridden Trail: Once a month

Weekend Warrior Summary: It's West Texas canyon walls so it gets pretty rocky. The scenery, esp when compared to in-town trails, is pretty nice. Singletrack right along the rim with Jeep roads to the outside. Relatively flat with short, fun down/uphill sections. A solid once a month monotony breaker. But...
THIS is the wild west from the movies. There are quite a few motorcycle races held in here each year and these local guys boogie. Watch the heck out! Seems like every day is "qualifying" day. Locals shoot guns, throw beer cans, and put Jeeps where Jeeps seemingly can't go.
Just know you're on "their" turf when you pay your $5 to get in. Recommended Route: South side of lake rim, out and back. Seems to be fastest and best thrill for your dollar. Other recommended trails in the same area: MLK (east of MLK blvd.), Mae Simmons (west of MLK blvd.), Palo Duro

Weekend Warrior Summary: Haven't been to BS in a long time and I too was tired of Mae Simmon(MLK)and had read of some work that had been done to BS. Decided to give it a try on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised. Trail has been recently marked with Yellow(easy) and Pink(difficult) arrows and is much more fun.
This area has some great singletrack and fire road trails, and once you make it to the old rim trail, the views are spectacular.
A fun trail to break up the monotiny of MLK/Purina, but not something I would ride but once or twice a month. Recommended Route: Enter through the main gate to BS and stay on the main road past where you cross the dam. Once past the dam, look for a set of horse stables (white fence) on the left and the trailhead start there. There is a sign for MTB. Other recommended trails in the same area: MLK, Purina

Weekend Warrior Summary: I was getting sick of riding Mae Simmons so I dropped the now $3 to check this trail out. It's a really nice (but hot) ride, great views. There are some pretty technical sections, mainly because you're less than 5' from a 100-200' dropoff. Definitely not a trail I would ride daily, but it's a nice break from the other city style trails in the area. I rode it clockwise and then counterclockwise and it made for a nice 15 or so mile ride. Recommended Route: Ride it clockwise and counterclockwise, different challenges each way. Other recommended trails in the same area: Mae Simmons, Purina

, from Cleveland Summary: This trial is pretty tough. Unfortunately, I got a flat and couldn't finish the rest of it. It starts off being an easy trail, but eventually gets tough. There are alot of options while your riding. There are plenty of hills to climb up and soar down. I think it's more scenic on this trail than on Mae Simmons or Purina. The only downfalls I see to this trail is having to pay $2.00 per person at the gate, and it being a longer drive to get to. The other two trails aren't as far away from downtown Lubbock. This trail is worth riding. For some reason it has a lower rating than Mae Simmons and Purina, but I think it's just as good as them. To me, Mae Simmons is still the best. Other recommended trails in the same area: Mae Simmons & Purina (both in Lubbock)

, from Amarillo, Texas Summary: Participated in the Chain Breaker Race for the West Texas Championship Series. This was the second time I had ridden this course and found it to be very challenging as there are several technical spots but mostly single track and not many places to pass. This track can be very fast. Enjoyed the race and will look forward to next year. Recommended Route: A cattle guard is the point of origin. Can lift bike over cattle guard and start down fire road. From there you can take several routes.
