Ridden Trail: Once a week

Weekend Warrior Summary: Something for everyone; smooth, simple, and family-friendly River Trail, tough rocky and root filled climbs, steep descents, and some tight curvy trails. LOTS of shade (a must in Texas during the summer months) and some beautiful views from up top. Recommended Route: FOR FIRST TIMERS here's a locals recommendation.
Intermediate Rider: Down the river trail to the end, right on the MCC loop (use the second drop-in it goes downhill and over a bridge within sight) Follow that to the right, then left up a small climb then you hang right (don't go up Highlander) and loop back along the waters edge. Ride back down the river trail to the Mouth of the Bosque (open park area about halfway down the trail). Make a right up the road for a couple hundred yards till you see Powerline on your right. Up Power line, across a street to Kite/Slinky, hang a right on Kite, ride all the way around till you come back to the same spot, then take Slinky from that same entry point. After the closing climb on Slinky you'll find an entrance to Vortex on your left. ENJOY VORTEX. Vortex drops you into the mix master (a meeting of several trails in the middle of the park, feels like you're in the middle of a jungle). Turn right out of the mix master (down a trail through a sliced tree and over/around a large logset). Ride up to the road, go left up the road 30 yds. to Drainpipe which will take you back to the river trail. Right on the river trail. Other recommended trails in the same area: None. The route I provided is just a SAMPLE of the Cameron Park experience, there is SOOOO much more to ride.

Cross Country Rider Summary: very fast trail system! flows really well with a great variety of climbs and descents. it was rated the best mtb trail system in tx in March's Action bike magazine. i thought they were joking but I was wrong. Recommended Route: i'm not sure. i was out there for a TMBRA race to i rode the route that was marked. but ride the vortex. it's so much fun. i was giggling like a little school girl both on the pre-ride and on the race. i'm coming back Other recommended trails in the same area: I don't know the area. sorry

Cross Country Rider Summary: can't add much more to below reviews except I LOVE IT.
this trail has something for everybody and plenty for all.
for me it ranks with sansom park as #1 or #2 in Texas.
note: green or beginner trails are best described as "easier" than "easy'. and some parts of 'blue' trails are aerobically 'black'.
in my rule of thumb estimation you will gain an average of 125' to 150' of elevation for every mile ridden.(with the exception of the flat 'river trail'
'outback' to 'powder monkey' to 'mix master' is a great big rollercoaster.
loads of fun, fun, fun....

Cross Country Rider Summary: These trails are about as much fun as you can have on a mountain bike. They're all swoopy singletrack full of dips and drops through lush forest. There's also ALOT of climbing. Bring your legs and lungs to this one. It's smack dab in the middle of the city, but you never notice when you're on the trails. My personal favorites were: Highlander (fun in either direction), California 56 (lots of tight switchbacks and bridges), and the vortex (like a bobsled run for bikes). Recommended Route: First off...get a map. They can be found online, and without one you'll never figure these trails out. I started off by following the course from the Outback Blowout race that was held here which gives you a good tour of some of the main trails. After that just start exploring using the map as your reference. Other recommended trails in the same area: Ummm,no...just keep riding Cameron Park cause it's the most fun you can have on a mountain bike. Duh!

Racer Summary: Disclaimer: I just recently moved to TX from the Black Hills of South Dakota...So I am used to rugged trails and big climbs/descents.
With that said this trail system is one of the best I have ridden so far in TX...I do the TMBRA series so I have ridden a handful of the other venues to compare to. I rode the Apr 2007 Highland Outback blowout race course 3 times total and it always gave me a smile...especially the vortex...Let it rip and see if you can get the bike 90 degrees to the ground...it's a trip and a huge grin...even SS rigid. The Rest of the trails are enjoyable as well..I was never bored...great climbs and fun descents, even the flats were fun. Recommended Route: The highlight for me was "The Vortex". It consists of about 4 "S" turns down a relatively narrow gulley utilizing the natural banks for each turn. You can come close to going perpendicular to the ground on most the turns...Super fun and the faster the better...if you want to see pics check out www.commiebike.com highland outback blowout race and you'll see dudes in action...look out for the tree at the last turn...Cheers!
