Guadelupe River State Park

Part of the state biking trail initiative or whatever. The trails are good riding, but pretty uneven in skill level. You find a half mile or more of meandering fire road across a meadow followed by a nasty climb over jagged rocks that beg a pinch flat.
Overall, the trails are well worth riding. Two main loops and a couple more small ones for a total of over five miles. Mostly a combination of easy stuff and nasty rocks. Not a long ride, but by the end, you'll know you've been riding. Watch out for horse apples.
Now that you're good and sweaty. Hit the park road and head downhill to the best swimming hole ever to grace a bike trail. This part makes it worth the trip. Crystal clear water over a gravel bottom. Barely waist deep with a strong current. Awesome!
Good camping facilities and interesting enough to make it worth an overnight.
From San Antonio, go north on US 281 20 miles past Loop 1604 to TX 46. Turn west on 46 (toward Boerne) about 7 miles to Park Road 31. Follow the signs to the park.
Summary: This being my first time on a mt bike and living about 15 miles up the the road from the park my opinion might be somewhat useless. I really enjoyed the trail and will be back to ride it again, partial due to me living so close and my lack of knowledge about other trails. There are rocks like the other reviews said, big rocks, mostly in the areas of climbs and descents which were never lasted for long. Loop three on the map was the worst for rocks and had some impassable areas. Not sure I would drive hours to ride this but if you are fairly close why not, its another place to get away and ride.
Recommended Route: Loop 1, 2, and 4

Summary: If you love your bike, this is not the place to ride. The rocks here are vicious. I know that this is Hill Country real estate, but these rocks are large and want nothing less than to see you tossed to the ground by their evil numbers. For those that do manage to stay on two wheels, rest assured that any part of your bike’s anatomy that is within a foot and a half of terra firma is guaranteed to show the marks of your success. Trust me.

Summary: O.K. - Here's the deal. These trail(s) were actually constructed for hikers and horsemen. However, I do have a favorable opinion of what you get here. You won't find downhill and you won't get miles of hard-packed single-track.
What you get is a mixture of grassy fire road, rocky single-track, various horse-worn detours, and ample rocks (pebble-to-bowling ball-to-Hope watermelon!)
I have been on this trail about seven times and I have to say that I probably encountered 6 people combined. People come to this park to swim, ride innertubes, and fish. The solitude is actually very nice. There are pretty views, encounters with wildlife (turkey, a lot of deer!, armadillo. etc.). The people you do encounter are normally sane and easy-going.
There are a couple of unrideable areas of this trail. If you have the time make a sleep-over. Hike the trail one time (about two hours) with a mule/camelback. Make some mental notes of where to avoid pinch-flats, then give it a go.
Recommended Route: There are three trail variations, depending your desire to view the river from the trail. Try all of them.

Summary: I would not recommend this trail to anyone unless you are already in the area and tired of riding everything else. Like everyone else mentions, this trail is rocky. Not rocky fun, but the crappy kind that will give pinch flats if you chose a bad line. I went in November, the scenery was not up to Bandera (Hill Country State Natural Area) and the trail is flat. I don't really see much point in riding rocks for no ups, downs, drop-offs, or chances to hurt myself for a "legit" reason. The camping is sub-par, the park is small, but the swimming is nice. I quess the only real bonus is that they stock trout here in the winter.
Recommended Route: There really is only one route. It is just broken into three loops. Watch for hikers and riders.

Summary: Rocks, rocks, rocks, and more rocks. If you like rocks you'll like this trail. If you like your bike, your butt, and your teeth you'll stay away. These aren't the fun rocks you jump off of, these are the ones the jar your bones. You'll appreciate a full-suspension on this trail. In all fairness to the fine folks that built it, it was built as a horse trail but mountain bikes are permitted to use it. It is short apprx 4 miles, but after your finished you'll know you've ridden. Not for beginners.
Recommended Route: Trail 2
