, from Austin, TX Summary: Be nice. This trail isn't bad for beginners, and even intermediates can have a fun ride. This trail is adjacent to the Balcones Canyonland Preserve. It's called the "Galapogos of Texas" and has a lot of history. Along many of the flat limestones stretches you can see ruts left by years of cedar chopper's wagon wheels. There are waterfalls, small swimming holes, and lots of creek crossings. I live in the neighborhood on the south side of Bull Creek Park, so I ride the five miles quite often. It may not be the greenbelt or city park, but take your beginner friend and enjoy the scenery. Recommended Route: Start in Bull Creek park, cross the creek about 100 yds north of the rope swing. You'll cross under 360 2 or three times (depending on the route you take). The trail forks into a loop before you get to Spicewood Springs Road. You have to ride up the street a 1/4 mile then reenter at the northern trailhead.

, from Austin Summary: Avoid this place! I road there once and saw all these single guys roaming around in the woods along the trails. I found out later that this plce is a big cruising place for gay guys to get a quick fix if you know what I mean . Recommended Route: Head back to your car.

, from Bloomington, MN Summary: This is a good trail for beginners and intermediates. There are some downhills beginners may have to walk, but remember if you're pushing a mountain bike, you're still mountain biking! This trail is also pretty short. There are some challenging sections and a cool stone staircase that's fun! There's lots of water crossings, but they're fun if you don't mind getting your feet wet! The trail is pretty open with some rock areas and some hard-packed dirt. It's very scenic and I had fun even though it didn't satisfy my technical hunger. Recommended Route: Follow above directions Other recommended trails in the same area: For intermediates and beginners: Walnut Creek. For advanced: Emma Long!!

, from Austin Summary: Parts of this trail are pretty advanced but for the most part, it is lower intermediate but still a lot of fun. Creek crossings, not very hilly, fast in spots. It's a good trail but not for beginners. As for Ken's Trail, I don't know who Ken is, but he's a bad ass. You pretty much have to walk straight up about 1/4 mile and then you can kinda ride another 1/4 mile more or less up the side of the peak. Then it's downhill but it is EXTREMELY techinal downhill. A lot of loose rock on the way down. If you go too fast you could kill yourself in spots because you are next to a 150-200 foot drop off. Parts of the trail are marked PRIVATE PROPERTY but I couldn't figure another way down so I had to go through there. I probably had to walk half the way down. I am a decent rider but it was too tough. Tougher than City Park. Recommended Route: Start off Spicewood and 360 at parking lot. About 5 miles one way. Other recommended trails in the same area: City Park, Barton Creek Greenbelt.
