This is a classic dessert trail with a couple of technical sections. Its easy to take the wrong trail and end up on Owens Loop, so before heading out take a good look at the trail head map. When in doubt take the trail heading north, none of the false trails heading north last very long, or if there's bike tracks usually just follow those, also look for stacked rocks indicating the proper trail. The reason the trails in this area aren't very popular isn't because of the quality of the trails. It's because they're hard to follow the first time, and they're all easy to get side tracked on, but it would be hard to get really lost.
From St. George Blvd go North on 1000 E, at the end of the road turn left and continue past Dixie rock, when the road splits stay right, at the top of the hill there is a dirt parking lot and trail head on the right. City Creek is on the other side of the road. If you have any doubts about the trail look at the trail head map. This is also a trail head for the pioneer Park fire road and another crappy trail.
Summary: I really thought this trail sucked. Its almost all up hill, and there are many sections that are way too tech for an intermediate. It also is not very well maintained. I guess it would be good for a good grunt workout but not much more. Thank you that is all.
Recommended Route: at the top of red hill road park on the left then cross the road. trail starts there.
Other recommended trails in the same area: bear claw poppy, stuki springs, guacamole, J.E.M, goosberry.
