miles and miles of single track out in the middle of the forest. you can find anything from easy trails to the mudiest trails anywhere. it doesn't usually dry out till the middle of august. motorbikes horses hikers and hunters use the same area. this is probably some of the best trails in washington.

Summary:
I rode this on a Monday morning in late July while visiting family in Olympia (I'm from Sacramento and mostly ride NorCal trails, but having done Mtn Bike Oregon the last two years figured I had to get more time in in the NorthWest). It did not disappoint. I didn't see a single other mtbr, horse rider, or dirt bike. Ran into one Marine jogging the trail and could hear some target shooting going on from time to time. No mud or crazy atv ruts except at creek crossings. It was in the sixties most of the day. Lots of wildlife (birds of prey, deer, field mice), cool wildflowers in the clearcuts, very thick foliage (branches tore my arms and shins up), lots of roots (challenging but not frustrating), very fast switchbacks, moderate climbs, cool jumps and log options with forgiving landings.

Recommended Route:
Get a current map! Mine was outdated and I spent a good portion of time looking for trails that didn't exist and having to orient myself using a compass. That said, once I decided that being lost was just a state of mind, I just took the Greenline #6 wherever I found it and it was very good to me (this trail has great flow - recommendation for singlespeeders is correct). I also spent some time on Mira Porter #8 which groomed more for horses and had some extended climbing, but great meadow crossings! I did find that I couldn't put as many miles in as quickly here, so map a bail out plan if you start to bonk (the swithcbacks down Greenline #6 from the peak were not part of my intended route but ended being my favorite part - sweet!)

Summary:
Capitol Forest is huge! Our property is only about 1/4 mile from middle waddle and me and some of my friends are into mountain bikeing so we can just leave from my house. There are trails gallor you can ride from Little rock to the closed ORV park in just a few hours "depends on how fast you are." You can also catch a bus every sunday and ride it to the peak and ride down. There are some races that go on up in capitol forest too. The skill level veries and is mudie in the winter but thats when no dirt bikes are on it.

Recommended Route:
SOme of the routes that me and my friends like to ride are upper green line #6, the peak, and rock candy. Fall creek is also good to ride and camp at.

Summary:
I have ridden many a trail at the Cap, most of which are not on any map. The ones that are though are definitely worth the time you spend on them. I have rode the area in all seasons and miss the Cap terribly as I am now stuck in a mid-western hell and I miss the rainy PNW!

Recommended Route:
Anything the DNR will let you go on is worth the time and effort!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Once again, anywhere in the Cap is good stuff! Try riding in the sandy hills of Northern Michigan, you'll never complain about the Cap again!

Summary:
I rode all winter and there was no moto traffic on the trails. We have had a wet spring which has made the soil softer than normal resulting in all of the ruts. There was also a poker run the opening weekend. Motorcycles are a fact of life in CF. This is DNR land and it is open to all users. Mtb'ers are a relatively small user group and if we go popping off about motor bikes or horses for that matter we will make enemies. Both the moto cult and horse cult put in alot of volunteer work out there, on trails that you ride on. We must all get along. The last thing we need is a turf war. Think about the big picture. There are plenty of trails out there. We are lucky to have so many trails to choose from. Go to Tiger Mountain on any given summer weekend and you'll see the negative effects of user groups dividing. You made the right call on the horse trails though, they are definitely in better shape.

Summary:
The Trails are Rutted, Torn up and not Rideable. Stay off the Motorcycle Trails. The trails are suposed to be open to motorcycles Apr 1st but I guarentee you there were some Selfish Motoheads riding ALL WINTER, Ruts up to my Knees!! We tried the horse side a few weeks later and ITs Great. Horse Riders must respect the Rules more because the motorcycles SURE DO NOT!!

Recommended Route:
Stay Off Of motorcycle Side starting at Middell Wadell Campground
