Gooseberry Loop
1 reviews
 2 of 5

Start at the base and ride up road 3330 for about 3.2 miles. Find Gooseberry Trail 1227 on the right hand side and follow it. If you see Gooseberry flats on the left, you''ve gone about a half mile too far. The first 0.5 miles of the trail are a sweet downhill singletrack that flows over small ruts and exposed roots. Almost no loose rocks. Shortly after that the trail turns right revealing a gorgeous view of the campgrounds on the north side of Taneum Cr. Hopefully you didn''t savor the view for too long because the trail turns ugly really quick. It plunges downhill into a motorcycle rut that''s near 3 ft deep and filled with big loose rocks. The trail flattens at the bottom and crosses the river over a wooden bridge coming out at the campground, follow the road to the right and back to the base of road 3330.

Summary:
The climb is really nice, not too steep, not too easy. I get a great workout on the fireroad and its really easy to settle into a nice rhythm and just pump it out. The downhill portion is awesome until you get to the last part of the descent, that rut destroyed my left leg the first time I rode it. The only way to get through this without dismounting is to pretty much forget the brakes and let the bike go. It was really scary the first time, and it still scares the crap out of me. To be honest, the only reason I continue to try to stay on the bike in this section is so I can prove to myself I can do it. The ride overall is enjoyable, but I have other trails I much prefer to ride.

Recommended Route:
See directions above.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Fishook flats and Taneum North Fork.
