Weekend Warrior Summary: The South Kitsap Park is the only place around Port Orchard that offers a decent nature ride. This park used to be my ol' stomping ground when I was growing up in Port Orchard. Lately the park has become run down and unmaintained to a reasonable level. The old wooden bridge at the one end of the park was destroyed by a huge windstorm back in the mid-90's. I used to take this bridge as a short-cut to get to a friends house that bordered the park. The riding is really great, most of it runs through very large conifer trees and winds through lowland wooded areas too. I believe Olney Creek runs through this park and is a great place to explore off the beaten path. As time goes on I hope this park does not go away! The future of South Kitsap Park looks bleak.......enjoy it while it lasts. Great family oriented place to right bikes! Recommended Route: Follow the front enterance in and the best trails start near the children's playground on the far side of the field. Most trails are narrow and the vegetation can be thick during the summer. Other recommended trails in the same area: Green Mountain!

Weekend Warrior Summary: My 10 and 8 year olds love this place. Except for the lower section with the rotted plywood bridge and the dead end run sections. Other recommended trails in the same area: Banner woods

Cross Country Rider Summary: The actual name of this 200 acre park is South Kitsap Park, located on the corner of Jackson amd Lund Ave, just outside Port Orchard. The park includes softball fields, batting cages, paint ball areas, horseshoes, and a steam train. At one time, it had a great BMX area and track, but it was removed. The local kids have rebuilt (probably not approved) a section of this area. The park has very little money, and all of the work is done by volunteers. The past few years, the trails have been kept in very nice shape. These trails total only about 5 or 6 miles through beautiful forested land, with approaching urban sprawl right up to the park boundry. The trails are beginner/young rider friendly, wide single track, very few hills and some roots. It is a very easy, recreational type ride. There is very little standing water, even during the heavy rains. I run them often, and bike them about once per month for a little diversion. Watch out for dog walkers. Recommended Route: There is ample parking on the west entrance near the steam train, or the south entrance near the BMX area, batting cages/ball fields. The west side trails are mostly wider and flat. The trails to the east are real single track through some thick woods and wetlands, with many roots. The east and west areas are divided by a small creek. There are no trail maps, the park is small enough and bordered by roads so you will not get lost. The only challange here is finding all of the trails, and even that is not hard, but very enjoyable. Other recommended trails in the same area: Banner Forest and Green Mountain are the mountain biking destinations in this area. A well kept secret is Blake Island Marine State Park, as you need a boat to get there.

Weekend Warrior Summary: I just moved to Washington in Feb from Tennessee and Live about 1 min from the many entrances to this park. It Has several types of trails and they range from small incline and decline for walking or casual ride to extrem banking and high turns and downhills, I would advise to use caution for your first couple times as many people walk these trails and you don't know whats around the curve until your there. Also watch out for trick trails they will lead you to a dead end. Recommended Route: The one with the log and wooden bridge over a small creek, don't worry you'll find it... Other recommended trails in the same area: Wild cat trail
