Cross Country Rider Summary: May 24, 2008. Heard great things about this trail, and decided to try it out with RJ. Originally planned on campus but heard mixed reviews on the weather and the FS campgrounds in the immediate area didn't seem open. Rode from the west end (FR 9039 - Curly Creek parking lot) up toward Lower Falls. The first mile was really cool, but then the blow downs started. It wasn't bad to and a bit past the Bolt Creek Shelter, but from about half way to the intersection of FR 90 it was pretty laborious. Then in the last quarter of the trek, several huge sections of hill side sluffed off, and the hike around was tough. By the time we popped out on FR 90, we were pretty toast, and decided not to do the last mile to the Lower Falls campground and headed back on FR 90.
We went through patches of snow, and there was still a lot on the ground near Lower Falls. FR 90, just west of where it crosses the Lewis River is closed due to really bad road failure. I doubt the camp will be open for at least another month. The FS center on FR 25 is closed.
The trail is passable, and if a crew went through with a chain saw and only cut through the 12-18" logs it would still be a great ride, albeit with some cold creek crossings and that hike around area where it sluffed off.
I would call the FS to see if they did some clearing before heading out. If they did, it would be worth it at least to the intersection of FR 90. Recommended Route: Curly Creek trail head to Lower Falls. Back if worth it, otherwise head back on FR 90. Other recommended trails in the same area: Lower Falls seems like a great central spot for a lot of trail rides.

Cross Country Rider Summary: I rode this trail today, rather I attempted to ride this trail. It is virtually impenetrable due to dozens of huge fallen old-growth trees blocking the trail, and several inches of snow and ice on the trail. I made it a couple of miles before giving up and turning around. Hopefully the forest service trail crews will get it back in shape this spring, because it's a really sweet trail. Recommended Route: Out and back. Why spend half a ride off the trail and on forest road? Other recommended trails in the same area: Siouxon Creek Trail

Weekend Warrior Summary: I rode this trail this weekend (11/6/05) and as I headed into the trail I noticed hunter all over the place and one of them threatened to shoot me because I was stupid enough to ride the trail. I would suggest to all riders that when riding this time of year check the hunting seasons, areas people hunt and wear a bright orange vest as to avoid the dip-sticks that are out shooting things on a well traveled and popular hiking trail. Other than that the trail was a great up and down trail with alot of challenging areas made more challenging with the rain and the mud.

Weekend Warrior Summary: Miles of rolling singletrack through old-growth forest along the beautiful Lewis River. If you start at the southern trailhead, a long trip out is rewarded by five gorgeous waterfalls within the last 3 miles. It doesn't get much better than this.
None of the climbs are too tough (which sits well with me, a single-speeder) and the trail is usually rolling, which keeps you moving along quickly. The trailbed is well-maintained with a mix of quick sections and technical spots that keeps everything interesting. Recommended Route: I've never ridden this as a loop as recommended by other reviewers - just out and back. This trail is fast and fun, and feels different in both directions. Be sure to bring a camera and stop off at all the waterfalls - they get progressively better from south to north. Other recommended trails in the same area: Plains of Abraham, Brown's Camp, Gales Creek

Cross Country Rider Summary: This is a great trail. It starts out pretty flat and then starts climbing gradually to a couple view point cliff edges with nice views of the river below. From that point the trail gradually descends to FS 90 road trailhead. Great forest/ river ride. Recommended Route: Started at southwest trailhead and road to trailhead that comes out on FS road 90. Road out and back. Other recommended trails in the same area: Plains of Abraham/ Smith Creek. Souixon Creek.
