Ridden Trail: Ridden Once

Weekend Warrior Summary: Started at the Wildcat Trailhead and the first section wasn't that difficult. After the first fire road crossing, the climbs get harder and harder. There are a few flat and downhill sections that rock on the way up but not too many. There is a real gnarly downhill section just after the campground that screamed through some awesome rock gardens. I would say for my first time out here that I was about 60% walking and 40% riding. The vista at the top was disappointing in that I was expecting great views but. Took the fire road back and all I can say is the faster I went, the better it was. I'll be back to this one for sure. Other recommended trails in the same area: Banner Forrest

, from Poulsbo Summary: Wildcat is about 6 miles up and then 6 down. Some people say its 3 hours up and 20 minutes down. I am not too sure about that.. I need to get back out to this trail because it totally rocks! I loved it, I did it on my hardtail, and it kicked my butt. Thats not to say it isn't possible. It has an old busted indy shock. I really need to get out there on my full suspension. If you are looking for a good ride. This is probably the best in kitsap county. There are alot of hikers that go there. So it is best to go on a weekday. Recommended Route: Take the wildcat trail. I hear gold mountain rocks, but have not had a chance to ride it. The best thing to do is to get a map from Silverdale Cyclery, they have a ton of 'em. you can call them at (360)692-5508 for directions Other recommended trails in the same area: Banner Forest, Stodalmeyer, Capitol forest (Greenline #6), Tiger mountain

Ridden Trail: Every few months

, from Silverdale Summary: I rode this back to back days this weekend. The initial trail is laid back and easy to ride, make the first road crossing and you encounter some of the most technical stuff you'll ride on the way to the top. A little of everything, steeply rooted, rockslides and almost solid rough rock sections. On a good day I can ride it all... most of the time I'm humbled on some part of this section. Nice view point of Bremerton and Seattle and a bench before the bridged stream crossing. Make your second road crossing and your headed up to the campground. From there start wrapping around the east side of the mountain, getting a nice view over the clearcut and a bit of a rest as it levels out some. Still some technical rocky sections in places. A couple of more short sections and road crossing and your at the top parking lot. Returning down the same route will addict you to this place. What a rush... just technical enough to keep the adrenalin flowing. Beaver Pond can be found by taking the Gold Mountain Trail for an alternative way down. This is even more technical than Wildcat Trail and the last 2/3 is basically uphill climbing... you eventually end up back at the campground. Watch for other users of the trail on the way down, the temptation is to carry a lot of speed. Recommended Route: Wildcat Lake trail to the top and stay off of the heavily graveled roads. Alternately, Gold Mountain Trail for a more technical way down Other recommended trails in the same area: Gibbs Lake to the North, Local Klahowya trails

, from Quilcene, WA Summary: My mission was to recon the sight for a friend for a weekend stroll to test out a new bike and yikes! Real good ride indeed. Might want to bring an extra tube just in case. Noticed lots of sharp rocks, especially after the camp ground, which is about half way up the hill. Don't recommend doing it after or during snow weather (learned the hard way). Very slushy all the way up, especially cruddy after the motor bikes ripped everything up. Not sure if they were supposed to be there, but they were. The ride down makes it well worth it for sure. Recommended Route: Just went straight up the Wildcat and took the recommendations and avoided the Beaver Pond route.
