Bolam Pass - Hotel Draw Loop

 5 of 5

Rugged and long with awesome scenery. Trail starts on Forest Rd about 5 mile West of Purgatory Ski Area.

The FS road climbs from 8800 ft to 10000 ft intersecting the CO Trail. You take the CO Trail for another 10 miles peaking out at 12000 ft on Blackhawk Pass. Then its a quick 5 mile downhill fly to where you started. Email me for GPS way pt log if you want it. There is a termendous amount of climing involved, but the views of the San Juans & Wilson range are worth it.

A general trail description....Drive on FS 578 from Purgatory (Durango Mtn Resort going to the Hermosa Creek TH. Park car near Hermosa Crk TH. Ride North on FS 578 going towards Bolam Pass (Graysill Mine area). After the mine follow the road left to Celebration Lake. Turn left (south) onto the CO Trail that crosses the road. Stay on the CO trail and climb over Blackhawk Pass. Its all downhill from here!! The CO trail intersects FS 550/564 and take a left (NE) onto this road. Take a right (south) onto FS 578 and head back to your car.

Summary:
Rugged singletrack/forest road mix that combine to form a loop with the CO Trail. High altitude lung burner that will leave your muscles sore but with unforgetable views.

Recommended Route:
Just a general trail description....you need a good map & GPS is highly recommended. ****Drive on FS 578 from Purgatory (Durango Mtn Resort going to the Hermosa Creek TH. The CO trail intersects FS 550/564 (I am sure it is not marked or signs here at all) and take a left (NE) onto this road. Take a right (south) onto FS 578 and head back to your car.
