Jamestown Loop
6 reviews
 3.5 of 5

Climb on Ward St. as it turns into a jeep road. It gets pretty rocky in sections, but nothing unbearable. Stay left thru one or 2 junctions until you get to a gate and a private property sign. This is where you have to cross the creek. Trail books remark that this crossing is "questionable at peak runoff." Go up that trail and keep to the left at all junctions. It eventually loops back down to Jamestown. Parts of the downhill, even though 4wd road, are extremely steep and rocky.

Summary:
This circuit is ridiculous!

You will not like any of these trails if you're really into Walker and the like and think they are pretty tough. The initial climb, as stated, is not that hard if you go up ward st. After you cross the creek, on a bridge, the climbing gets pretty steep, I walked about half of it. Although steep and rutted, the last leg of climbing is short and direct to a 3-4 way junction. It was getting real dark when we got to this point, but luckily we ran into a local who guided us through some very sick, very technical singletrack.

In broad daylight I would rate some sections we rode as 5-5+, at night (around 8PM) w/ no lights it was out of control.

There is some crazy obstacles and stuff some local guys have set up and if you're lucky you'll find them. At one point we rode up and over deadfall on rock/boulder ramps on very steep grade. I almost nailed a tree.

Like everyone else, you'll have to explore.

Recommended Route:
up ward st. east across 509 left on singletrack, down road, right on singletrack, down, down, down, and into jamestown.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Todd Gulch

Summary:
I have to agree with all of the other reviews -- this is one of the best (if not the best) ride in Boulder County. Crossing James Creek can be cold, but its not a problem if you are riding when its warm. Crossing in the early spring or late fall is a challenge. For the adventuresome, try riding all the way down Gold Lake Ridge to the end of the jeep road. Turn right at the bottom for a killer descent into Lefthand Canyon.

Recommended Route:
From Jamestown ride up Ward Rd as described before. At the ridge there are more ways down that you (or I) can count. Find them yourselves!

Summary:
I have held off on reviewing this area, mainly to keep it a secret between my friends and I. The Climb up from Jamestown is a B*$^#, but for good reason-to make you earn the ride. The main recomended route is pretty tame compared to most of the other riding that can be done once on top of plateau (509 and 102J-aka Ward Rd. junction). Be warned, there is a major creek crossing that can be very hard if the water is up! To make a long story short, there is some rocking singletrack up here! Poser's and winer's stay away. These trails are not maintained, and can HURT YOU-I have many scars to prove it. Once you know the area, the sky is the limit in regards to duration and difficulty of trails to ride. This area is easily on of the top 3 areas for hardcore riding in Boulder County!

Recommended Route:
This review is just the tip of the iceburg, but you have to go find the singletrack and earn it for yourself. The initial trail description is just a launching route to some very good sick single track-once at top of junction by 509 and 102 (Ward Rd).

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Not unless you twist my arm. GET OUT AND RIDE'EM FOR YOURSELF!
