Ridden Trail: Every few months

Cross Country Rider Summary: This area is good for taking your significant other who does not really want to ride offroad (at watershed/Gambril) or simalar trails. I like the woods here and it is mildly challeging and not rocky. The only time I had to dismount my bike was to cross route 26. Good vor begingers but I really didnt find many loops just fireroads and single track that just end and forces you to turn around (which isnt bad to me just the way it is). Recommended Route: I parked off of rout 26 at the main parking lot where the damn is. Then went off road to right across grassy area. You get on a fireroad for a mile or so then cross route 26 and ride on more fire roads and single track. I then had to turn around and return the same way. Does anybody know of any better loops around the lake? I thought the fireroads would go all the way around the lake but did not. Other recommended trails in the same area: Not in area but Gambrill and Watershed are the best. You start and ride there regularly like I do and any other trail in area seems easy. LOL

Ridden Trail: Once a week

, from Eldersburg, MD Summary: Yes, this is mostly a fire road route but is still gives some fun. The trail (I take) starts from the NE of the Rt 32 bridge. You do about 1.5 miles of fire road with minor ups and downs. You then come to a relatively short but steep hill climb which ends under the powerlines. Bearing to the left, you ride down through the tall grass and end up at a hike-a-bike stream crossing. The trail takes on a single-track for a little over a mile then becomes a fire road once again. You do a little in and out of the fire road system and add in 2 small stream crossings. I tend to bail out where Irving Ruby Rd. dead-ends (after about 7 miles). It about 3/4 mile back up to 32. Not technical, but a nice workout. And hey, YOUR RIDING! Isn't that the real important thing anyway? Recommended Route: North east of the bridge on 32

, from Sykesville Summary: I grew up riding this trail. There are a ton of side trails with varying degrees of difficulty, depending on how far down the trail you go. Explore it, and you'll find what you're looking for. WATCH OUT FOR MOTORCYCLES. This area is a popular spot to ride. Recommended Route: Southern side of 32 bridge, ride east. Other recommended trails in the same area: McKelkin (Patapsco)

, from Ellicott City Summary: My friends and I used to ride once a week, starting in daylight and finishing in pitch black. We have created plenty of singletrack off the fireroads on the west side of the resevoir. This is an excellent course for beginners. Watch out for the hunters in the fall. Recommended Route: After parking on north side of bridge, head back across bridge and hang a right about 1/4 mile on right onto hidden singletrack. Other recommended trails in the same area: McKeldin and Avalon

, from Sykesville Summary: I'm a beginning rider (about 5 months now) and found this to be a nice ride but pretty confusing. There are lots of deadends to hose you up if you don't know where you are going (which I don't!!). I went the other day and made a 9.5 mile out and back ride. It has alot of not too steep hills and you can get some good speed up with just a few rocks and roots in the way. There are some single track paths but I haven't explored all of them yet. I think there are lots of chances to explore and it seems like a good place to go if you don't have time to drive far. Seemed like a good place for a novice to develope technique. I'll be back. I have lots to develope!! Recommended Route: I came up rt32 and crossed the bridge. Parked right after it in the small lot on the right. I took the trail on the right (where the cable is). Other recommended trails in the same area: McKeldin and Patapsco near Catonsville.
