Summary:
Someone once told me that "not all off-road riding is mountain biking". This place proves that rule. I am kind of surprised this trail is listed here in mountain bike review. This is a flat, gravel road ride, although there is a 2% grade which is about a 500 ft. climb into New Freedom, PA. It really is best for a cyclo-cross bike if you want to get in high miles. If you go on a mountain bike you will need slick tires. If you do the entire MD/PA route you could get in 80 miles. I do not recommend this trail during summer weekends as it is jammed with "Freds" (if you know what I mean). I have been hit on this trail and had a few near misses. People do not watch where they ride, do not understand the rules of the trail, or just plain don't care. Best time to go here is any weekday or fall, winter and early spring. I would start at White Hall, MD - fewer people and cars. MD side is prettier than PA and really green, with lots of picnic tables. There is a great stop at Seven Valleys PA where you can get a chair massage and really good food. Bring water and food or money for food.

Cannot stress this enough..
this is a BEGGINER trail. its flat. easy, and long. good for a rest/recovery day. Have to dodge quite a few little kids on bikes, and watch out for riders who dont know how to yield to "their side" of the trail when riding in groups. But if you are looking for something easy this is the place to go

Summary:
This is a excellent trail for all skill levels. The trail is made of crushed stone and about 12 feet wide.
The scenery is breathtaking and the trail was surrounded by beautiful trees, running water falls, and lots of wildlife. The trail starts in Ashland and continues for 19.7 miles to the Mason Dixon Line between Maryland and Pennsylvania. I highly recommend this trail to all cyclist
