Hueston Woods State Park

This singletrack has it all--creek crossings, some of the most challenging inclines ive ever seen (good luck!). There are windings, uphills, downhills, stumps to jump, and a small area of ramps, just for kicks. There are races held here anually, in the spring and fall.
Take 732 N until you see the Hueston Woods State Park sign--about 5 miles north of Oxford. The entrance-way will fork, go to the left, drive, drive, drive, and you will see the Bike Shop on the right, eventually.
Summary: This trail system is one of the best around Ohio; Bob and his crew of ever-graduating local riders do a great job making sure that there is something for everyone. These trails have shown a lot of riders a good time during their brief college careers at MU, so there is a ton of hidden stuff!Anything you need Bob has or can get and will always hook you up with a legit deal. I used to ride these trails a lot back in the day, and every time I come back to OH I try to hit them up again (thanks for hooking me up with a bike when I'm in town Bob!)-their always getting bigger and better. Stop by Bagel and Deli in Oxford before or after a ride for some treats too!
Recommended Route: Hook up with a local or try to get Bob to show you around...or, just go out and explore. There are infinite possibilities and your always close to a road if you get lost!

Summary: I actually ride Hueston closer to 3 or 4 times a week, and can say that the system is a jewel in an area that has limited mountain biking. Bob and the local riders do a good job of taking care of the trails, but be forwarned, don't expect the uber manicured trails that some other parks have around. Lots of the riders out here are old school riders that like roots and obstacles, and believe a good trail doesn't necessarily have to be cleared of all debris. Anything unnegotiable is removed, but expect to run into rooty and rutty up/downhills. A few are often steep and technical, but like some of the other reviews have pointed out, you have to know your way around to even find them!
The other option is hooking up with anyone of the locals who are more than happy to show you around the trail system which can be, quite honestly, very perplexing. However, unlike other parks and trails with a single loop, once you get to know the system you can vary your ride according to the style you want.
I will give it a "4" rating in comparison to other trails in the area. I find it more diverse than most, though some might it frustratingly bumpy compared to other greased trails in the Southern Ohio area.
Recommended Route: 3 types of trails:
Green: super easy and flat
Blue: An "intermediate" loop with few obstacles and few hills. Really not all that challenging.
Red: This makes up the majority of the trail system. Several intersections and all trails are multidirectional. Seemingly endless combinations of trail here that vary in difficulty and fun.
Other recommended trails in the same area: EI, Ceasar's Creek

Summary: The Hueston Woods trail system offers a great mix of difficulty and terrain along with various types of woodland settings - from pine forests and open meadow to dense hardwoods with views of Acton Lake. Some of the trails provide access to the park roads so you can ride on them and get a little rest. The park is generally pretty quiet as the speed limit is 25 MPH and the roads are heavily patrolled. The trails are well marked and well maintained. Courtesy of Biker Bob (proprieter of Juie's Bike Shop) and the others who maintain the trail, there are also some nice solid man-made A-frames and bridges. Bob's a great guy. He's the best source of info for learnig the different trails. As long as he is around, you can always get help with a mechanical problem. His shop offers rentals and he also offers a wide variety of new bikes and accessories.
Recommended Route: From Dayton, take I-75 South to Hwy 725 West. Follow 725 through Gratis and Camden, then look for the signs for Hueston Woods. Follow the road into the park until you reach Julie's Bike Shop on the right. Park there and Consult with Bob for trail options, as many of them converge right there.

Summary: This is my favorite trail within an hour of Dayton. It may not be the best in any one area, but it has the best overall combination of attributes including trail layout, trail conditions, technical challenge, aerobic challenge, lack of crowds, and accessability.
While the trail is not overly technical, it does have its moments. Be sure to ride the "switchbacks" on the outer loop. When ridden uphill (counterclockwise), they will challenge both your climbing and maneuvering abilities.
The mtb area here is not very large, but numerous trails have been cut in the limited area. They loop and crisscross in all directions, so you can ride a lot without the limited area becoming stale.
There is a good coombination of narrow, twisty singletrack, and more open singletrack where you can get some speed. Likewise, there are fairly flat loops suitable to newbies, but some runs that will get your heart rate up.
The trail seems to dry out faster than other Ohio rides, so I head there first. Good trail design is evident--it takes the abuse of weather and traffic, and it's fun, too.
Recommended Route: Just ride every which way, but be sure to climb the switchbacks.

Summary: well maintained, nice single track setup. for the most part the trails are well marked. overall i like this trail, but....it has a LOT of "intersections". i'm not the sharpest knife in drawer, but the trails are kinda confusing if you haven't been there multiple times. if you go to this trail, take someone( or find someone)who has been there a bunch and you'll do fine.
